Titanium Tube Bending for Aerospace
Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 1989TODAY'S modern aeroplanes require light weight components to satisfy the aeroplane's flight performance requirements. More than ever before new designs require commercially pure titanium (Grades A40, A55, and A70) because of the needs for high ductility associated with moderate strength, high corrosion resistance and good weld ability.

Nonlinear Bending of Curved Tubes
1984The determination of the nonlinear deformation and of the collapse load of elastic curved tubes subjected to bending loads is investigated. The precritical deformation of the tubes is determined on the basis of the semi-membrane theory. The stability analysis is done with the aid of the hypothesis of local buckling. The collapse loads are compared with

Abstract The stress distribution in curved tubes under the action of applied couples acting either in the plane of curvature of the tube or perpendicularly to that plane greatly differs from the conventional beam distribution, especially in the case of tubes with thin walls and a great curvature of the center line.

Abstract This article begins with a discussion on the factors considered in the selection of bending methods. It presents a detailed description of the types of bending method, machines and tools used in the bending and forming of tubing. The article provides an overview of bending tubing with and without a mandrel and hot bending.

Compensating for miter bends in cylindrical tubing
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2007Miter bends in cylindrical tubing perturb wave propagation in a way that may alter the desired resonance properties in musical instruments. The nature of the perturbations and several methods of compensating for them at low frequencies are described.

Folded-Tube Soft Pneumatic Actuators for Bending
Soft Robotics, 2019This article presents a model and experimental results for a new class of bending soft pneumatic actuators (SPAs) made from a single section of thin-walled flexible tubing. The actuator is formed by creasing the tubing into fin-like rectangular folds and inserting the folds through regularly spaced slits in a high-strength fabric. When pressurized, the

Axial-Temperature-Gradient Bending Stresses in Tubes
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1958Abstract A study is conducted of the bending stresses induced in a thin-walled tube adjacent to a joint between the tube and a heavier section by an axial temperature gradient imposed across the assembly. A solution is shown utilizing basic relations taken from the existing literature for a tube of uniform wall thickness attached at ...

Bending Ovalization of Thin-Walled Circular Tubes
Advances in Science and TechnologyThis paper presents a new analytical model to predict the mechanical behaviour of an elastic straight thin-walled circular tube (pipe) subjected to bending. A thin-walled pipe cannot be modelled as a simple beam, inasmuch it presents a shell-like behaviour due to the ovalization (in-plane warping) of the cross-section when loaded.
