Electron microscopy‐based three‐dimensional subcellular imaging of plant male gametophyte

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
The Aquilos2 Cryo‐FIB workflows provide practical routes for cryo‐electron tomography and volume imaging in plant structural biology. ABSTRACT Understanding cellular events in three dimensions (3D) is of great importance for the annotation and illustration of biological processes in a contextual way. Imaging techniques based on electron microscopy (EM),

Creep-rupture tests of internally pressurized Hastelloy-X tubes [PDF]

open access: yes
Seamless Hastelloy-X tubes with 0.375-in. outside diameter and 0.025-in. wall thickness were tested to failure at temperatures from 1400 to 1650 F and internal helium pressures from 800 to 1800 psi. Lifetimes ranged from 58 to 3600 hr.

Shrubs and trees as natural insect protection for grazing animals in Switzerland and the alpine region: A systematic review of in vitro, in vivo and clinical trials Sträucher und Bäume als natürlicher Insektenschutz für Weidetiere in der Schweiz und im Alpenraum: Eine systematische Literaturübersicht über in vitro‐, in vivo‐ und klinische Studien

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Biting or irritating insects are a threat to the health and welfare of grazing animals. This systematic review reveals that several shrubs and bushes growing in the alpine area have insecticidal, insect‐repellent and/or attractant properties. The alder Alnus glutinosa, juniper Juniperus communis, spruce Picea abies and walnut Juglans regia are ...

Feasibility study of a discrete bearing/roller drive rotary joint for the space station [PDF]

open access: yes
The most critical mechanism on board the proposed space station is the continously rotating joint which must accurately align the solar power units with the sun during earth orbit. The feasibility of a multiple, discrete bearing supported joint driven by

Supplementing, restructuring, resisting: Maps of Underground space in poetry, embodied performativity, and the “misrepresentationalism” of Harry Beck's Tube diagram

open access: yesOrbis Litterarum, EarlyView.
Abstract This article considers mental and poetic “maps” of London in their respective relationships to Harry Beck's famous 1930s “circuit‐diagram” map of the underground railway system. This iconic image distorts and radically stylizes London geography; thus, it functions as a tool for planning individual travel itineraries but leads to a ...
