Tubo-Ovarian Abscess in Postmenopausal Patients

We retrospectively reviewed 20 surgically confirmed tubo-ovarian abscesses in postmenopausal women for the period 1973 to 1989. Pain and bleeding were the two most common presenting symptoms. Nine of the 20 patients (45%) had recently had endometrial instrumentation.
