Reduced expression of mitochondrial lactamases in myeloid cells might be protective for AD [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimers Dement
Abstract Background The relevance of immunometabolism in AD requires further exploration. Our analysis integrating AD genetics and myeloid cell genomics reported that lower LACTB and LACTB2 expression are protective for AD. LACTB is a mitochondrial serin protein that may influence mitochondrial bioenergetics.

Cell type‐specific gene expression changes are associated with cerebral amyloid angiopathy and blood‐brain barrier integrity in Alzheimer's disease [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimers Dement
Abstract Background More than 85% of Alzheimer's disease (AD) donor brains exhibit some degree of cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA), which is characterized predominantly by Aβ40 deposits in the brain vasculature and can cause blood brain barrier (BBB) leakage. CAA is associated with risk of infarcts, cerebral hemorrhages, and cognitive decline.
