Tumor Necrosis Factor-Alpha Antagonist-Induced Sarcoidosis

JCR: Journal of Clinical Rheumatology, 2010
Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disease of unknown etiology. Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha is an important player in granuloma formation, and recent clinical trials have investigated the efficacy of TNF-alpha inhibitors in sarcoidosis. Paradoxically, there are several case reports in the medical literature describing the development of ...

[Tumor necrosis factor alpha].

Schweizerische Rundschau fur Medizin Praxis = Revue suisse de medecine Praxis, 1992
TNF-alpha (Cachectin) is a cytokine (tissue hormone) synthesized and secreted as a trimeric polypeptide; major producers are the cells of the RES after stimulation, e.g. by endotoxin. Its synthesis is strictly regulated. TNF elicits a great number of cell-specific responses. IL-1 and probably additional mediators cooperate in these effects.

Tumor necrosis factor alpha in mycobacterial infection

Seminars in Immunology, 2014
Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) is a critical immune mediator in protection against and pathology of tuberculosis (TB). TNF-α had been found to be associated with TB when it was originally identified as cachexin and until today TB research continues to unveil novel roles of this cytokine of highest relevance for the disease process and for novel ...
