From tumor suppressor to thrombus resolver [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 2017
The gene p53 was originally identified in 1979 as a tumor suppressor in a multitude of human cancers (eg, colorectal, lung, and breast), where it functions as a suppressor of cancer proliferation by means of the induction of cell cycle arrest and programmed apoptosis in response to a variety of cellular stress signals.

Characterizing Tumor Thrombus Arising from Non–Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma

open access: yesEuropean Urology Open Science, 2022
Background: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) can exhibit a unique vascular tropism that enables tumor thrombus extension into the inferior vena cava (IVC). While most RCC subtypes that form tumor thrombi are of clear cell (cc) histology, non–clear cell (ncc ...

A Case of Obstructive Jaundice due to Bile Duct Tumor Thrombus of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Diagnosed by Peroral Cholangioscopy. [PDF]

open access: yesDEN Open
Abstract While hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) often invades the portal or hepatic vein to form tumor thrombus, tumor thrombus in the bile duct is rare. In such cases, differentiation from intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma is difficult, and the tumor often appears as a smooth, yellowish‐white, polypoid mass within the bile duct lumen.

microRNA expression in peripheral blood cells following acute ischemic stroke and their predicted gene targets. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BackgroundmicroRNA (miRNA) are important regulators of gene expression. In patients with ischemic stroke we have previously shown that differences in immune cell gene expression are present.

Drug‐Free Thrombolysis Mediated by Physically Activated Micro/Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of particle‐mediated thrombolytic effects (thermal, mechanical, and chemical) and their activating physical stimuli (light, ultrasound, and magnetic field) in drug‐free thrombolysis. ABSTRACT Thrombus‐associated disorders rank among the world's leading causes of death, with ischemic heart disease and stroke as the main contributors.
