BMP antagonist CHRDL2 enhances the cancer stem‐cell phenotype and increases chemotherapy resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Overexpression of CHRDL2 in colon cancer cells makes them more stem‐like and resistant to chemo‐ and radiotherapy. CHRDL2‐high cells have upregulation of the WNT pathway, genes involved in the DNA damage response (DDR) pathway and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT). This leads to quicker repair of damaged DNA and more cell migration.

Simultaneous inhibition of TRIM24 and TRIM28 sensitises prostate cancer cells to antiandrogen therapy, decreasing VEGF signalling and angiogenesis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRIM24 and TRIM28 are androgen receptor (AR) coregulators which exhibit increased expression with cancer progression. Both TRIM24 and TRIM28 combine to influence the response of castrate‐resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) cells to AR inhibitors by mediating AR signalling, regulation of MYC and upregulating VEGF to promote angiogenesis. Castrate‐resistant

Understanding and measuring mechanical signals in the tumor stroma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review discusses cancer‐associated fibroblast subtypes and their functions, particularly in relation to extracellular matrix production, as well as the development of 3D models to study tumor stroma mechanics in vitro. Several quantitative techniques to measure tissue mechanical properties are also described, to emphasize the diagnostic and ...

Beyond digital twins: the role of foundation models in enhancing the interpretability of multiomics modalities in precision medicine

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review highlights how foundation models enhance predictive healthcare by integrating advanced digital twin modeling with multiomics and biomedical data. This approach supports disease management, risk assessment, and personalized medicine, with the goal of optimizing health outcomes through adaptive, interpretable digital simulations, accessible ...

Tumor to Tumor Metastasis

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1972
To the Editor.— Metastasis from one neoplasm to an unrelated coexisting neoplasm is a very rare autopsy finding; to our knowledge, fewer than 100 cases have been reported in the English literature. In 40 of these patients the host tumor was another malignant neoplasm and in 56 it was a benign tumor.1We wish to report two additional cases with tumor to

LASP1 in Tumor and Tumor Microenvironment

Current Molecular Medicine, 2018
The growing evidence shows that LIM and SH3 Domain Protein 1 (LASP1) is a multi-functional protein that plays important role in forming cytoskeleton and prognostic marker in different cancers. LASP1 expression is correlated with the grade, size, and the metastasis of tumor in clinical samples.

Metastasis of Tumor to Second Different Tumor: Collision Tumors

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1970
To the Editor:— The phenomenon of tumor-to-tumor metastasis, albeit infrequent, has been reported by a number of observers. Osterberg 1 reviewed three previously reported cases, and added two: one of bronchial origin, the other probably of renal origin, both spreading to meningiomas.

Tumors and Tumor-Like Lesions [PDF]

open access: possible, 2003
Peripheral nerve tumors are uncommon, nerve sheath tumors, schwannoma and neurofibromas being the most frequent. Their clinical signs and symptoms are often unspecific, which is why they may pose a diagnostic problem; this is particularly true for the neck, where a palpable mass is often mistaken for an enlarged lymph node by the referring clinician ...
