Electrically tunable VO_2–metal metasurface for mid-infrared switching, limiting and nonlinear isolation

Nature Photonics, 2023
We demonstrate an electrically controlled vanadium dioxide (VO_2)–metal metasurface for the mid-wave infrared regime that simultaneously functions as a tunable optical switch, an optical limiter with a tunable limiting threshold and a nonlinear optical ...

Tunable Filters with Extended Tunability

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1992
Filters with extended tunability using waveguide devices are proposed. The first and second types of filters are combinations of a filter with a wide tuning range and a filter with narrow passbands. The first type is composed of cascaded filters and the second type is the filter with a wide tuning range embedded in a resonator.

Tunable FBARs: Intrinsic vs. extrinsic tunability

2012 IEEE/MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest, 2012
The methods used to make the Film Bulk Acoustic Resonators (FBAR) tunable is reviewed. Intrinsically tunable FBARs make use ferroelectrics in ferroelectric and paraelectric (non-polar) phases have tunabilities up to 5% and more. Extrinsically tunable resonators are based on traditional piezoelectric FBARs and make use of external varactors and ...

Tunable acoustic metasurface based on tunable piezoelectric composite structure

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2022
Due to the potential engineering needs, the passive tunable metasurfaces with a high performance equivalent to the active phased array is worthy of research. Here, a passive ultrathin metasurface unit composed of a piezoelectric composite structure (PCS) connected to an external capacitor, which can modulate the phase of the transmitted acoustic waves ...

Unprecedented Tunable Tetraazamacrocycles

Organic Letters, 2010
Novel nitrogen-bridged aza[1(4)]cyclophanes with fine-tuned cavities have been synthesized by nucleophilic aromatic substitution of 1,5-difluoro-2,4-dinitrobenzene with diaminobenzene derivatives.

Tunable and Active Phononic Crystals and Metamaterials

, 2020
Phononic crystals (PCs) and metamaterials (MMs) can exhibit abnormal properties, even far beyond those found in nature, through artificial design of the topology or ordered structure of unit cells. This emerging class of materials has diverse application

Achieving Color‐Tunable and Time‐Dependent Organic Long Persistent Luminescence via Phosphorescence Energy Transfer for Advanced Anti‐Counterfeiting

Advanced Functional Materials, 2022
Organic ultralong room‐temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials have promising applications in anti‐counterfeiting. To improve the encryption level, the exploration of organic materials with tunable solid‐state long persistent luminescence is in ...

Tunable dysprosium laser

Optics Letters, 2016
We report the demonstration of a tunable dysprosium laser. The experiment employed in-band pumping of a Dy3+-doped fluoride fiber and a simple resonator design involving a ruled diffraction grating. The laser produced tuning between 2.95 and 3.35 μm, limited by the availability of optics.

Strain-Tunable Chemiresistor

Analytical Chemistry, 2010
We have developed a resistance-based chemical sensor (chemiresistor) for volatile organic compounds whose sensitivity can be reversibly increased over a range of nearly 2 decades by the application of tensile strain. This polymer-based sensor is comprised of Au-plated magnetic particles structured into conducting chains by the application of a magnetic
