Bio‐Inspired Synthesis of Macroporous Single Crystal Particles as Scattering Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A general strategy is presented that delivers unique, single‐crystal microparticles that combine submicron macroporosity and uniform particle shapes. A bioinspired approach is used to occlude three distinct types of additives – polystyrene microspheres, polymer vesicles and amino acids – within calcite single crystals, and subsequent thermal annealing ...

Switchable Frequency Selective Slot Arrays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A switchable frequency selective surface (FSS) made of square loop slots and PIN diodes connected to a novel separate biasing circuit is presented. The structure uses a very thin, flexible substrate sandwiched between two physically independent metallic ...

Interstitium‐Mimicking Porous Alveolar Membranes Enable Physiologic Aerosol Transport and Distinct Acute‐Chronic Lung Injury Responses

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An interstitium‐mimicking membrane combines three‐dimensional alveolar geometry, high pore interconnectivity, and mechanical compliance to overcome transport limitations of conventional lung‐on‐chip barriers. The resulting platform supports physiologic aerosol transport, quantitative analysis of cross‐barrier particle movement, and reveals divergent ...

DISCRETELY TUNABLE FIBER RING LASER USING FBG TUNABLE FILTER AND MACH-ZEHNDER INTERFEROMETER [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A discretely tunable Er-doped fiber-ring laser using a fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) and a tunable fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is proposed. In this scheme, the combination of MZI and FBG acts as a discrete wavelength selector.

Spatially‐Resolved Coherence of Organic Molecular Spins at Room‐Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Molecular spin qubits are emerging as a promising quantum sensing technology. This paper studies the variation in coherence and sensitivity in both crystalline and thin‐film samples by combining microscopy and room temperature optically detected coherent control.

Wavelength-tunable picosecond pulses from a passively mode-locked figure-eight erbium-doped fiber laser with a sagnac fiber filter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We experimentally demonstrated a wavelength-tunable passively mode-locked Erbium-doped figure-eight fiber laser. Wide tunability is achieved using a high-birefringence (hi-bi) fiber Sagnac loop.

Fast tunable lasers in radio-over-fiber access networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The authors present a novel concept of employing optical wavelength packet switching (WPS) in radio-over-fiber (RoF) access networks. The Central Station is equipped with a fast tunable laser (TL), which is externally modulated with a data signal ...

Optical Signature of Moiré Superlattices Formed by Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We discover optical signatures from bonded interfaces in twisted SrTiO3 moiré superlattices, including low‐frequency Raman vibrational modes and strong second‐harmonic generation, consistent with strong interlayer coupling inferred from cross‐sectional electron microscopy and ab initio calculations. ABSTRACT Moiré superlattices formed at the interfaces
