Discharging properties of tundish slag for an improved hot-tundish recycling process
Steel Research, 2002The discharging properties of tundish slag for an improved hot-tundish recycling process were investigated using a lab-scale discharging experiment at 1773 K. The sticking ratio of the slag (defined as the weight ratio of the sticking slag on a Al 2 O 3 crucible after discharging to the total slag at the moment of discharging) was found to decrease ...

Continuous Casting Tundish Dead Volume Study by Physical Modeling and Computational Investigation
Steel Research InternationalFlow efficiency in a two‐strand continuous casting tundish is studied by analyzing the residential time distribution (RTD) curves in a small‐scale tundish water model using a conductive NaCl solution tracer. The velocity fields in the tundish water model

Making the steel of continuous-cast ingots cleaner with respect to nonmetallic inclusions is one of the most important problems in ferrous metallurgy and is difficult to solve simply by means of a single out-of-furnace treatment. This article discusses steps being taken by the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine to improve the refining of nonmetallic ...

Extensive water modelling was carried out to ascertain the influence of various types of baffle designs on the hydrodynamic performance of three different designs of steelmaking tundish systems. These included, a two-strand slab casting tundish, a six-strand billet casting tundish and a five-strand, skewed, delta shaped tundish.
