Computed Results on Tundish Systems

1989
In the previous chapters we discussed the principles of mathematical and physical modeling as applied to tundish operations and have also shown some selected physical modeling results. In this chapter we shall develop a general mathematical formulation describing the flow behavior of tundish systems and then will present a selection of computed results.

Hydraulic and numerical simulation of flow field characteristics in induction heating continuous casting tundish

Ironmaking & Steelmaking: Processes, Products and Applications
The flow state of the melt inside the continuous casting tundish plays a decisive role in the realisation of metallurgical function. With the application of tundish induction heating, much attention has been paid to the influence of the internal non ...

Fluid flow modeling in slab tundishes

Journal of Materials Engineering, 1990
Nonmetallic inclusions in molten steel can result in poor quality of a continuous casting product. In addition to being used as the reservoir and distributor of molten steel in continuous casting, tundishes are used to remove inclusions in molten steel. The design of a tundish to improve the efficiency of inclusion removal requires a detailed knowledge

Role of Gas Aspiration through Ladle Shroud and Influence on Tundish Hydrodynamic Performances: A Physical and Mathematical Modeling Study

Steel Research International
Gas aspiration through ladle shroud, during the teeming of a ladle into a tundish, has been investigated via physical and mathematical modeling. To this end, a volume of fluid‐based two‐phase turbulent flow model (in conjunction with the standard k–ε ...

Tundish nozzle blockage in continuous casting

JOM, 1968
Examination of the phenomenon of nozzle blockage, encountered during casting of aluminum-killed steel, resulted in the following conclusions: 1. The mechanism of clogging is a complex process involving the precipitation of alumina in the bore of the nozzle augmented by dendritic growth of entrapped steel. 2.

A Computational Fluid Dynamics and Support Vector Regression Combined Method for Predicting the Flow Performance of the Five‐Strand Tundish

Steel Research International
To optimize the flow field of a multistrand tundish and improve the steel quality, a prediction model integrating the techniques of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and support vector regression (SVR) is proposed.

Structural optimisation of three-strand asymmetric tundish for super large round bloom continuous casting

Ironmaking & Steelmaking: Processes, Products and Applications
In recent years, there has been significant development in the large-scale utilisation of round bloom continuous casting, which has led to an increase in the strand spacing of the tundish.

Coupled CFD-FEM modeling of fluid–thermal–structural interaction in a single-strand tundish

Ironmaking & Steelmaking: Processes, Products and Applications
A mathematical model has been developed to study the fluid–thermal–structural interaction in a single-strand tundish based on a coupled computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element method (FEM) approach.

Numerical simulation of collision-coalescence and removal of inclusion in split swirling flow tundish

Metallurgical Research & Technology
The swirling flow generated by the swirling chamber of the split swirling flow tundish can effectively promote the collision and growth of inclusions. The split swirling flow tundish can promote the removal of inclusions by improving the flow field.
