Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Optimum design of double tuned mass dampers using multiple metaheuristic multi-objective optimization algorithms under seismic excitation

open access: yesFrontiers in Built Environment
The tuned mass damper is one of the most frequently employed structural control devices for mitigating dynamic vibrations in structures subjected to earthquake ground motions. Conventional tuned mass dampers require substantial mass to effectively reduce

Parametric Study of Tuned Mass Dampers for Long Span Transmission Tower-Line System under Wind Loads

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2016
A parametric study of tuned mass dampers for a long span transmission tower-line system under wind loads is done in this paper. A three-dimensional finite element model of transmission tower-line system is established by SAP2000 software to numerically ...

Understanding and Optimizing Li Substitution in P2‐Type Sodium Layered Oxides for Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores Li‐substituted P2 layered oxides for Na‐ion batteries by crystallographic and electrochemical studies. The effect of lithium on superstructure orderings, on phase transitions during synthesis and electrochemical cycling and on the interplay of O‐ versus TM‐redox is revealed via various advanced techniques, including semi‐simultaneous

Unusual Swelling Behavior of Hydrogels Modified with Spiropyran as Appendage or Crosslinker

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Not so innocent after all—spiropyran crosslinkers in methylenebisacrylamide‐crosslinked poly(acrylamide‐co‐acrylic acid) hydrogels increase crosslinking density, but also, counterintuitively, increase swelling. Charge complexation, cooperative chemo‐mechanical effects, and aggregation may explain these observations.

Vibration suppression in multi-body systems by means of disturbance filter design methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This paper addresses the problem of interaction in mechanical multi-body systems and shows that subsystem interaction can be considerably minimized while increasing performance if an efficient disturbance model is used.

Spectrally Tunable 2D Material‐Based Infrared Photodetectors for Intelligent Optoelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intelligent optoelectronics through spectral engineering of 2D material‐based infrared photodetectors. Abstract The evolution of intelligent optoelectronic systems is driven by artificial intelligence (AI). However, their practical realization hinges on the ability to dynamically capture and process optical signals across a broad infrared (IR) spectrum.

Semi-active tuned mass damper building systems: Design [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Passive and semi-active tuned mass damper (PTMD and SATMD) building systems are proposed to mitigate structural response due to seismic loads. The structure's upper portion self plays a role either as a tuned mass passive damper or a semi-active ...

Restrained Stroke Active Tuned Mass Damper [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Earthquake Engineering Society of Korea, 2005
The allowed operation space for the mass damper in an active tuned mass damper (ATMD) system is limited for most civil structures. In this study, a restrained stroke active tuned mass damper (RS-ATMD) system with a end-spring and a holder that reduces the stroke of the mass damper with maintaining the control effect durably is proposed.

Geometry‐Dependent Adhesion in Transparent Monodomain Liquid Crystal Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid Crystal Elastomers (LCEs) are emerging as exciting pressure‐sensitive adhesives. We examine adhesion in chemically identical elastomer films, exploring the influence of geometry (director orientation) and phase (nematic or isotropic). We demonstrate the potential of these aligned films as transparent, tunable, broad‐temperature‐range smart ...
