Numerical Modelling of Blasting Dust Concentration and Particle Size Distribution during Tunnel Construction by Drilling and Blasting

open access: yes, 2022
In order to reduce the blasting dust concentration in the tunnel during the drilling and blasting, accelerate the tunnel excavation process, and improve the working environment for the construction workers, a three-dimensional geometric model of dust ...

Do aphid endosymbiotic bacteria influence parasitoid searching behaviour through changes in aphid honeydew production?

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
Hamiltonella defensa infection increases honeydew production in certain aphid genotypes, potentially modifying aphid feeding behaviour. Parasitoid wasps, Aphidius ervi, are more attracted to honeydew from H. defensa‐infected aphids; though larger honeydew amounts may slightly deter searching.

Experimental study on pressure relief blasting in rock-blast tunnel [PDF]

open access: yes
Rock burst is a difficult and urgent problem during the construction process of underground engineering in a zone with high surrounding rock pressure. Pressure relief blasting is one of the most effective methods for solving the problem.

The aesthetic sublime of megaproject structures: A framework and a research agenda

open access: yesEuropean Management Review, EarlyView.
Abstract The physical structures of megaprojects—such as mega‐canals, metros, railway lines, bridges, tunnels, and iconic opera houses—hold a profound capacity to generate aesthetic experiences with enduring societal impact. Yet, research on megaprojects has predominantly focused on functionality and economic rationale with aesthetics being pushed to ...

S‐Adenosylmethionine (SAM) hydrolases counter increased SAM epimerisation in thermophilic archaea

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
S‐Adenosyl‐l‐methionine (SAM) is a vital enzyme cofactor. Epimerisation at the sulfonium centre of biologically active (SS,SCα)‐SAM is driven by heat, yielding biologically inactive (RS,SCα)‐SAM. Here, two novel archaeal SAM hydrolases from the thermophilic Sulfolobus acidocaldarius and the halophilic Haloferax volcanii are shown to cleave (RS,SCα)‐SAM.

Dynamic response and safety control of adjacent tunnels under blasting excavation of drainage tunnels

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
In the process of parallel blasting excavation of two tunnels, the construction of new tunnels will cause different degrees of vibration damage to the linings of the adjacent tunnels due to the small tunnel spacing. In this study, the blasting excavation

CD36‐mediated lipid rewiring in the metabolic adaptation of tumour ecosystems

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Nutrient deprivation drives a lipid‐centric shift in tumour metabolic symbiosis and signalling network. CD36 functions as a bidirectional bridge, transferring fatty acids from stromal donors (adipocytes, CAFs) to the ecosystem tumour‐ and microenvironment‐dependently.

UV signature mutation hyperhotspots as genomic dosimeters

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Recurrent UV signature mutations are a sensitive and specific indicator of sun exposure. UV signature mutations (C → T mutations at dipyrimidine sites) were quantified using Duplex Sequencing and a stringent mutation calling protocol to identify true low‐abundance mutations.
