Rod receptors in the retina of Tupaia belangeri

Anatomy and Embryology, 1983
The retina of Tupaia belangeri was studied by transmission electron microscopy. - Among a vast majority of cones a few typical rods have been found as a distinctly different class of photoreceptors. The outer segments of the rods measure 10 microns X 1.5 microns versus 6 microns X 2 microns in the cones.

Motor Function in MPTP-Treated Tree Shrews (Tupaia belangeri chinensis)

Neurochemical Research, 2013
The tree shrew, a new experimental animal model, has been used to study a variety of diseases, especially diseases of the nervous system. 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) is the gold standard for toxin-based animal models of Parkinson's disease (PD) because MPTP treatment replicates almost all of the pathological hallmarks of PD ...

Aggression and dominance in tree shrews (Tupaia belangeri)

2001
Tree shrews live solitary and defend their territories against intruding conspecifics of the same sex. Under laboratory conditions, housing of two males in one cage results in a stable dominance hierarchy1. The agonistic encounters between the two males are accompanied by intense reciprocal vocalisation and vary with their behaviour.

Body temperature rhythm of the tree shrew, Tupaia belangeri

Journal of Experimental Zoology, 1992
AbstractThe circadian rhythm of body temperature of the tree shrew Tupaia belangeri was studied by telemetry. The amplitude of the daily (or circadian) variation was found to be much larger than that of most endotherms (amplitude ∼ 5°C) and the bimodal shape of the rhythm differed from the cosine waveform that characterizes the temperature rhythms of ...

The Vocal Repertoire of Adult Tree Shrews (Tupaia Belangeri)

Behaviour, 1989
Abstract The adult vocal repertoire of T. belangeri consists of 8 distinct sounds which are organized into a graded system. Within the repertoire 4 basic acoustic structures have been distinguished which can be associated with one of the following functional categories: contact, aggression, defence, attention and alarm; Elements repeated ...

Vocalizations of Infant and Developing Tree Shrews (Tupaia belangeri)

Journal of Mammalogy, 1992
Ontogeny of vocalizations in tree shrews ( Tupaia belangen ) from birth to 2 months of age was studied by acoustic and video recording of behavior in captive family groupings. Sounds produced by nestlings were infrequent, of relatively low intensity, and included occasional clicks and waks, rapidly produced clicks that merged into purring during ...

Acute renal failure in Tupaia belangeri and rats.

Bibliotheca anatomica, 1979
Acute renal failure in man can best be simulated in model experiments by using either temporary occlusion of the renal artery or perfusions of noradrenaline into the renal artery. The kidney of the Tupaia belangeri, a primitive primate, is more resistant to temporary occlusion of the renal artery than of the rat. In Tupaia as in rats, anuria developing
