Using the Surface Reflectance MODIS Terra Product to Estimate Turbidity in Tampa Bay, Florida

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2010
Turbidity is a commonly-used index of the factors that determine light penetration in the water column. Consistent estimation of turbidity is crucial to design environmental and restoration management plans, to predict fate of possible pollutants, and to

Leveraging Multifaceted Polyphenol Interactions: An Approach for Hair Loss Mitigation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study presents tannic acid as an effective alternative to traditional hair loss treatments. Acting as an adhesion mediator, tannic acid binds to keratin on the hair surface and sequesters SCANDAL—a blend of salicylic acid, niacinamide, and dexpanthenol—allowing gradual release to hair follicles.

Chemically Enhanced Immunogenicity of Bacteria by Supramolecular Functionalization with an Adjuvant

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 23, Issue 23, December 5, 2022., 2022
Poorly immunogenic pathogens are a major cause of infectious disease. We chemically modified the surface of such a pathogen (Staphylococcus aureus) with a synthetic adjuvant to boost immunogenicity. “Adjuvanted” S. aureus induced improved immune responses in macrophages compared to unadulterated bacteria.

Multiple passages of light through an absorption inhomogeneity in optical imaging of turbid media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The multiple passages of light through an absorption inhomogeneity of finite size deep within a turbid medium is analyzed for optical imaging using the ``self-energy'' diagram. The nonlinear correction becomes more important for an inhomogeneity of a larger size and with greater contrast in absorption with respect to the host background.

3D Printing of Photocrosslinked Alginate Dialdehyde‐Gelatin Hydrogels Reinforced with Cobalt‐Containing Mesoporous Bioactive Glass Nanoparticles for Developing Skin Wound Dressings

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Bioactive multi‐crosslinked hydrogels are prepared from gelatin methacrylate (GelMA), methacrylate‐functionalized alginate dialdehyde (ADAMA), and Cobalt‐doped mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (Co‐MBGNs), demonstrating optimized elasticity, cytocompatibility, and wound healing potential.

Use of extract of moringa seeds as coagulant agent in treatment of water supply and wastewater

open access: yesRevista Ambiente & Água, 2010
The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of the extract of moringa (Moringa oleifera) seeds when used as a coagulant agent, in removal of turbidity and coliform in domestic sewage, pig wastewater and water to be used for public supply ...

Electromagnetic Signals at RHIC [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We calculate the direct photon yield in central and mid-peripheral Au+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC). The processes involving the propagation of jets have been convolved with a leading order treatment of jet energy loss in the medium and a one dimensional hydrodynamic expansion.

Spatially Controlled Optical Vortex Generation Using Low‐Loss Antimony Telluride Metasurfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
The spatially varying vortex beams with the customizable propagation trajectory and the controllable topological charge evolution are demonstrated using the Sb2Te3‐based plasmonic metasurfaces. Benefiting from the dispersion‐free property of the Pancharatnam–Berry phase and the broadband response of polarization conversion efficiency of the nanobrick ...
