Advancements and Challenges in Liquid Hydrogen Storage Tank Design for Maritime Applications

open access: yesEnergy Storage, Volume 8, Issue 5, August 2026.
ABSTRACT In line with the Paris Agreement and the IMO's decarbonization goals, the shipping industry has begun to focus more intensively on adopting alternative fuels to reduce emissions. Among these, hydrogen has attracted considerable attention, with liquid hydrogen (LH2) offering advantages in energy density and storage volume over compressed gas ...

Hydrogen‐Based Long‐Duration Energy Storage: Technologies, System Integration, and Techno‐Economic Performance

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, Volume 10, Issue 8, August 2026.
Hydrogen‐based long‐duration energy storage (LDES) converts surplus renewable electricity into hydrogen through electrolysis, stores it using suitable storage technologies, and reconverts it into electricity, heat, or transport fuels. AI‐driven optimization, digital twins, and techno‐economic, environmental, and reliability assessments enable efficient,

No Place to Hide? Regional Resilience and Vulnerability to Global Catastrophic Risk

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, Volume 10, Issue 8, August 2026.
No location on Earth withstands every global catastrophe. This review maps the geographic, institutional and infrastructural factors shaping resilience to nuclear, volcanic and impact winters, infrastructure loss and pandemics. Geographic isolation, food self‐sufficiency, strong governance and decentralization improve resilience across scenarios ...

Climate‐Action Driven Emission Changes of Unintentional Persistent Organic Pollutants From Global Copper Industry

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, Volume 10, Issue 8, August 2026.
Climate action profoundly reshapes global copper production by increasing output and altering the production technology mix. These changes also raise emissions of unintentional persistent organic pollutants (UPOPs) from the copper industry, revealing a hidden pollution trade‐off that should be addressed alongside decarbonization.

Effect of carcass storage condition on searcher efficiency trials for conservation detection dogs

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 6, August 2026.
We investigated the influence of storage condition on bat carcass odor through chemical analysis. Additionally, we tested the detectability of 3 carcass storage conditions through searcher efficiency trials with conservation detection dogs. Only 20% of the chemicals observed were shared across all 4 carcass storage conditions.
