Due to substantial use of gas turbines and their highly dynamic behavior, they have a profound impact on electrical grid. Although the control philosophies of various turbines are almost the same, there are some nuances in governor systems. As long as these details affect system response in extremely dynamic phenomena such as load rejection, they ...

Digital speed governor for steam turbine
Energy Conversion and Management, 1994Abstract This paper describes a design technique based on the Z -transform for a real-time speed governor of a steam turbine. The digital speed governing system is designed satisfying main operational requirements including stability and time domain specifications.

Hydro Turbine-Governor Model Validation in Pacific Northwest
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2004This paper presents an approach for generator model validation based on the measurements taken at the point of interconnection. The approach is initially applied for The Dalles powerhouse, where the simulated and actual governor responses were found different. Governor tests and monitoring were performed and resulted in model revisions.

Operating Characteristics of Turbine Governors
Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1930Surging has occurred on power systems whose transmission distance is small and load density high. The Duquesne Light Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has experienced these surges. This paper outlines tests conducted to determine the influence the steam turbine governors have in starting or sustaining a surge condition.

Electric governor of Kaplan turbines
Hydrotechnical Construction, 1981The preceding method of controlling the runner blades of a Kaplan turbine has a number of advantages compared to the hydromechanical method and it should be introduced both at hydrostations being put into operation for the first time and when modernizing operating hydrostations by replacing the mechanical drive system of the runner blades by an ...

PLC-Based Turbine Governor System
Conference Record of 2006 Annual Pulp and Paper Industry Technical Conference, 2006The governor system used by many pulp and paper facilities with steam power generation creates many challenges. Challenges such as inadequate response times; poor speed regulation; analog control drifting; high maintenance and support costs; expensive or unavailable parts; and extended lead times. Machine availability is affected and extended generator
