A governor/turbine model for a twin-shaft combustion turbine
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1995A twin shaft gas turbine unit was tested for the governor response to disturbances. A computer simulation model is presented as well as the test data which was used to derive values for the model parameters. >

Design of a Fuzzy Logic Hydraulic Turbine Governor
Control and Intelligent Systems, 2004In this article a fuzzy logic turbine governor is designed and simulated for the control of a hydraulic turbine, together with its penstock, based on a nonlinear turbine model. The designed fuzzy logic governor can be used in hydropower plants, and may replace the commonly used classical PID turbine governors that are causing instability problems.

Abstract This paper has been prepared as a contribution to a symposium on the subject of steam-turbine governors. The importance of the subject at present arises more from the increasing complexity of interconnection requirements than from any definite deficiency in existing apparatus.

Identification of turbine engine dynamics with the governor in the loop
2016 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC), 2016Precise gas turbine engine control for dynamic processes is of great importance in industry. To be able to preciously control the turbine engine an accurate model, which can predict the engine dynamic responses is required. This work focuses on developing a new prediction model for turbine engine rotor speed in a dynamic situation (time-varying rotor ...

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, 1953
In this paper is presented a general picture of closed-sequence system controls of hydro-electric plants, covering the relation between water-turbine governors and water level, power, frequency and tie-line controls. Special mention is made of the difficulty of governing created by the inertia of the water in the pipe-line.

A Supersensitive Governor for Hydraulic Turbines
Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1940Abstract A supersensitive governor is defined in this paper as one that will move the gates of a hydraulic turbine in the corrective direction by reason of a change of speed of 0.02 per cent and will then move the gates back by reason of a change of the speed back to the former speed.

PLC-Based Turbine Governor System
Conference Record of 2006 Annual Pulp and Paper Industry Technical Conference, 2006The governor system used by many pulp and paper facilities with steam power generation creates many challenges. Challenges such as inadequate response times; poor speed regulation; analog control drifting; high maintenance and support costs; expensive or unavailable parts; and extended lead times. Machine availability is affected and extended generator

Solving turbine governor instability at low-load conditions
2015 IEEE Petroleum and Chemical Industry Committee Conference (PCIC), 2015During routine commissioning of a steam turbine load-sharing system, serious low-load frequency instabilities were discovered. These instabilities were causing undamped oscillations in power and frequency to escalate until protective relays tripped a generator offline.

Computer-Aided Design of Adaptive Hydraulic Turbine Governors
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1979Abstract The design of the speed control system for a hydroelectric power unit, connected to a local grid is investigated. Manual design methods are limited to very simple process models. If more adequate models are to be need routinely, an interactive computer-aided control system design procedure is necessary.

Turbine governor system frequency measurement based on DSP
2011 2nd International Conference on Control, Instrumentation and Automation (ICCIA), 2011Hydro turbine governor play an important role in maintain the frequency stability of power system and operation control. It also affects security and efficiency of the hydropower plants. So performance of the governor is important to the hydropower plants. Frequency measurement is the key problem in the hydro-turbine governing system.
