Turbo Roundabouts

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2009
The Dutch turbo roundabout is characterized by predictable lane use and radial connecting entries. To calculate the capacity, in 1997 the multilane roundabout explorer was developed by modification of the capacity model of Bovy, which considered both separated lanes and pseudoconflict.

Analysis of Kinematic Parameters and Driver Behavior at Turbo Roundabouts

Journal of Transportation Engineering, Part A: Systems, 2018
AbstractThis study focuses on both vehicle kinematic parameters (speed and acceleration) and behavior parameters (critical interval and follow-up time) of drivers at turbo-roundabouts.

Modern suburban roundabouts in Croatia - flower and turbo roundabouts

Scientific Journal of Civil Engineering, 2020
Turboroundabouts are specially designed multilane roundabouts with spiral circulatory roadway and physically separated traffic lanes. This roundabout layout was developed in the late nineties of the last century with the aim of increasing the traffic safety and capacity at classic multi-lane roundabouts.

The newest public transport system applied to turbo roundabouts

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Engineering Sustainability, 2020
An integrated study based on the development of road infrastructure related to transport modes is one of the main methods to reduce both social and safety and pollution impacts. In this sense, optimal planning aims to reduce the use of private vehicles and reduce pollutant emissions and accidents. In general, the most successful cities have been those

Evaluating Capacity and Efficiecy of Turbo-Roundabouts

2009
Recent evolution of roundabout design has been directed towards the so-called turbo-roundabout, with the aim of ensuring better safety conditions than those afforded by traditional schemes. The few turbo-roundabout installations so far implemented have not allowed sufficient research in order to analyze operational conditions and capacity models ...

Investigating the Conversion of a Signalized Intersection to a Turbo Roundabout

Turbo roundabouts are multilane roundabouts with helical pavement markings and raised structures. While they have seen widespread use in Europe, California is only the second state in the U.S. (after Florida) to have installed a turbo roundabout. Turbo roundabouts separate the ingress and circulating roadways.

A study on the capacity assessment of turbo roundabouts and the applicability in Vietnam

Transport and Communications Science Journal
A turbo roundabout (or Turbine) is an improvement from conventional roundabouts with lanes running in a spiral shape, helping vehicles to enter the intersection smoothly and eliminate conflicts, reducing traffic congestion as well as the risk of traffic accidents.
