Soil wetting and drying processes influence stone artefact distribution in clay‐rich soils: A case study from Middle Gidley Island in Murujuga, northwest Western Australia

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
Abstract Soils that contain swelling clay minerals (e.g., montmorillonite) expand and contract during wetting and drying, causing movement within the soil profile. This process, known as argilliturbation, can alter artefact distributions, destroy stratigraphy and complicate the interpretation of archaeological deposits.

Turbo-codes quantiques

open access: yes, 2013
The idea of turbo-codes enables to encode classical information very reliably, but could not be used efficiently until today for the purpose of quantum information encoding. Indeed, there were theoretical obstacles as well as obstacles related to the implementation.

Evaluating the use of BERT and Llama to analyse classroom dialogue for teachers' learning of dialogic pedagogy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract Classroom dialogue is crucial for effective teaching and learning, prompting many professional development (PD) programs to focus on dialogic pedagogy. Traditionally, these programs rely on manual analysis of classroom practices, which limits timely feedback to teachers. To address this, artificial intelligence (AI) has been employed for rapid

The Performance of Turbo Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing System over Flat Rayleigh Fading Channel

open access: yesJournal of Engineering and Sustainable Development, 2009
This work investigates the effectiveness of Turbo Codes and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system, for communication over the flat Rayleigh fading additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. The Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is used

Effects of AI‐generated adaptive feedback on statistical skills and interest in statistics: A field experiment in higher education

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract This study explores whether AI‐generated adaptive feedback or static feedback is favourable for student interest and performance outcomes in learning statistics in a digital learning environment. Previous studies have favoured adaptive feedback over static feedback for skill acquisition, however, without investigating the outcome of students ...

Assessing novelty, feasibility and value of creative ideas with an unsupervised approach using GPT‐4

open access: yesBritish Journal of Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Creativity is defined by three key factors: novelty, feasibility and value. While many creativity tests focus primarily on novelty, they often neglect feasibility and value, thereby limiting their reflection of real‐world creativity. In this study, we employ GPT‐4, a large language model, to assess these three dimensions in a Japanese‐language
