Design and performance of turbo space-time coded modulation

Globecom '00 - IEEE. Global Telecommunications Conference. Conference Record (Cat. No.00CH37137), 2002
In this paper we introduce a new scheme for parallel concatenated turbo space-time coding. We refer to turbo space-time coded modulation (turbo-STCM). Turbo-STCM use systematic space-time codes as constituent codes. Puncturing is used to obtain full rate codes.

Recursive space-time trellis codes for turbo coded modulation

Globecom '00 - IEEE. Global Telecommunications Conference. Conference Record (Cat. No.00CH37137), 2002
Space-time coding schemes are focused on merging antenna diversity with appropriate channel coding in order to exploit benefits of spatial and temporal diversity. We propose the concept of recursive space-time trellis codes for parallel-concatenated space-time turbo coded modulation.

Turbo Trellis Coded Modulation Schemes

2000
The effectiveness of trellis coded modulation (TCM) techniques, proposed by Ungerboeck in 1982 [1], for communication over bandwidth limited channels is well established. TCM schemes have been applied to telephone, satellite and microwave digital radio channels, where coding gains of the order of 3-6dB are obtained with no loss of bandwidth or data ...

Improved binary turbo coded modulation with 16QAM in HSDPA

2003 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking, 2003. WCNC 2003., 2004
High speed downlink packet access (HSPDA) is proposed as the evolution of WCDMA recently, aiming at providing higher downlink transmission rate with peak rate about 8-10 Mbps. Turbo code combined with high order modulation can provide bandwidth efficient transmission with substantial coding gain over traditional trellis coded modulation (TCM).

Synchronization of turbo coded modulation systems at low SNR

ICC '98. 1998 IEEE International Conference on Communications. Conference Record. Affiliated with SUPERCOMM'98 (Cat. No.98CH36220), 2002
This paper examines the synchronization of turbo coded modulation systems at low SNR where these systems are designed to operate. Maximum likelihood estimation theory is used to derive a causal, discrete-time synchronization structure for estimating the carrier phase and symbol timing of a general QAM signal, using a decision-directed structure which ...

Combined turbo coding and unitary space-time modulation

Proceedings. 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (IEEE Cat. No.01CH37252), 2002
We present a scheme employing turbo codes together with unitary space-time constellations for Rayleigh block fading channels when no channel state information (CSI) is available. We present via simulations that coding gains up to 16 dB is possible over the original uncoded system at a bit error rate of 10/sup -5/.

Parallel concatenated turbo codes for continuous phase modulation

2000 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference. Conference Record (Cat. No.00TH8540), 2002
There are several ways to use iterative decoding techniques with coded continuous phase modulation (CPM). This paper presents a method using parallel concatenation of convolutionally-coded CPM. All CPM schemes can be decomposed into a ring convolutional code and a memoryless signal mapper.

Symbol-Interleaver Design for Turbo Trellis-Coded Modulation

IEEE Communications Letters, 2004
A design method for a code-matched symbol-interleaver for turbo trellis-coded modulation is proposed. The method constructs an interleaver by code matched criteria to eliminate some input error events of low symbol Hamming weight (SHW) sequences of the code which can produce low SHW codewords.
