Mycobacterial infection in farmed turbot Scophthalmus maximus [PDF]

open access: yesDiseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2002
Mycobacteriosis (piscine tuberculosis) has been reported to affect a wide range of freshwater and marine fish species; however, this is the first report describing mycobacterial infections in turbot Scophthalmus maximus. High numbers of granulomas were initially observed in the organs of moribund farmed turbot.

Histopathology of experimental scuticociliatosis in turbot Scophthalmus maximus [PDF]

open access: yesDiseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2007
A scuticociliate strain (B-2), originally isolated from an outbreak in a turbot Scophthalmus maximus (= Psetta maxima) farm in Galicia (northwestern Spain) and maintained in axenic culture, was injected intracoelomically (lethal dose 80 equivalent, LD80) in healthy turbot (50 g).

Characterization of the inflammasome component SmASC in turbot (Scophthalmus maximus)

Fish & Shellfish Immunology, 2020
Apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a C-terminal caspase recruit domain (ASC) is an important adapter protein in the inflammasome complex that mediates inflammatory caspase activation and host innate immunity in mammals. However, the function of inflammasome components in lower vertebrate remains poorly understood.

Colour preferences of juvenile turbot (Scophthalmus maximus)

Physiology & Behavior, 2016
The background colour of aquaculture tanks is normally chosen based on practical experience and/or observations of fish behaviour and the growth rates achieved. However, some farmed species, including turbot, are sentient and can show a preference for a particular environment. In the current study, a self-referent colour preference device was developed

Spawning of turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) in captivity

Aquaculture, 1988
Abstract Turbot spawning techniques have been improved during the last 12 years at IFREMER (Centre de Brest). Now the alternative use of natural or artificial temperature and light conditions allows production of viable embryos all year round. Out of phase, females frequently had to be stripped of their eggs, but those submitted to normal cycles ...

Cryopreservation of turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) spermatozoa.

Theriogenology, 2007
The aim of this study was to develop a method for cryopreserving turbot semen and to compare sperm motility characteristics, metabolic status and fertilization capacity of frozenthawed and fresh semen. The best results were obtained when spermatozoa were diluted at a 1:2 ratio with a modified Mounib extender, supplemented with 10% BSA and 10% DMSO. For

Cultivation trials with turbot (Scophthalmus maximus)

Aquaculture, 1972
Abstract Trials were made of the suitability for marine fish cultivation of young metamorphosed turbot. Fish were taken from the beaches and reared in a variety of small tanks and under pilot-scale fish-farming conditions. Survival was very good, and, excluding one accidental loss of fish, less than 10% mortality occurred from capture to growth to ...
