Nanometer Layer Coating to Lactose Particles for Optimization of Dexamethasone Pulmonary Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanometer layer coating (NLC) was investigated and its mechanism illustrated by advanced characterization techniques. The effects and application for the inhalation of dexamethasone (DEX) were demonstrated through in vitro and in vivo evaluation. This approach increased DEX bioavailability and enabled the dose to be reduced to 1/30 of the intravenous ...

A Validation of the Viscous Dissipation Model for Fast Vortex Methods in Simulations of Decaying Turbulence

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2007
For realistic turbulent flow simulations, quantitative representation of turbulent flow dynamics is desired. In the present study, two-dimensional homogeneous isotropic turbulence is simulated by using a grid-free vortex method to focus on the viscous ...

Neuromorphic Optical Tracking and Imaging of Randomly Moving Targets Through Dynamic Dense Scattering Media

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Vision begins not with images but with change: the retina fires only when something moves, handing the brain a stream of spikes. A neuromorphic imaging system adopts the same strategy—an event sensor that sees like the retina, a spiking network that thinks like the brain—to track and reconstruct fully randomly moving targets through tissue (phantom ...

Observation of pedestal mode spreading into SOL and broadening of divertor particle flux width on EAST tokamak

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Pedestal turbulence spreading into a crape-off layer (SOL) can be used to explain the experimentally observed strong pedestal-SOL coupling and is expected to be important for the broadening of divertor deposition profiles in future devices (Xu et al 2019

Influence of turbulence on the spreading of annular beams

open access: yesActa Physica Sinica, 2009
The closed-form expression for the mean squared beam width of annular beams propagating through atmospheric turbulence is derived by using the integral transform technique. The influence of turbulence on the spreading of annular beams is studied. On the other hand, the range of turbulence-independent propagation is obtained by examining the mean squared

Experiments on Nonlocal Fluid‐Flow Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A nonlocal fluid‐flow metamaterial composed of standard microfluidic tubes and connectors is designed. Hence, the current of the system at one position depends on the gradient of fluid flow at many other positions, leading to unusual alternating backward and forward laminar flows of water.

Effect of modulated heat source on diffusive and avalanche-like transport

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
We utilize the global full-F gyrokinetic code GYSELA to analyze the nonlocal transport in the presence of modulated heat source, the period of which is in the range of a transport timescale. In submarginal stable case, it is observed that a localized and

Acoustically Activatable Drug‐Loaded Nanodroplets for Mechanochemical Therapy in Solid Tumors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microfluidically fabricated drug‐loaded nanodroplets are sequentially activated by dual‐frequency ultrasound through acoustic droplet vaporization followed by bubble collapse, enabling spatially controlled drug release and mechanical tumor fractionation, resulting in synergistic mechanochemotherapy and prolonged survival.

Off-Axis Gaussian Beams with Random Displacement in Atmospheric Turbulence [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics, 2006
Our recent work in which we study the propagation of the general Hermite-sinusoidal-Gaussian laser beams in wireless broadband access telecommunication systems is elaborated in this paper to cover the special case of an off-axis Gaussian beam.

Flow and Heat Transfer of Impinging Jet from Notched-Orifice Nozzle

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2011
The centerline velocity of an orifice jet increases in the downstream direction from the nozzle exit and reaches a maximum of 1.2uce (where uce is the nozzle exit maximum velocity) at x/do≈2 (where do is the nozzle exit diameter) due to the vena ...
