Spectral formulation of turbulent flame speed with consideration of hydrodynamic instability

Physical Review E, 2011
Effects of Darrieus-Landau (DL) instability on the structure and propagation of turbulent premixed flame fronts are considered. By first hypothesizing separation of time scales of instability and turbulence, we estimate whether the instability can develop in the presence of turbulence of given flow rms-velocity and integral length scale.

Cascade-Renormalization Theory of Turbulent Flame Speed

Combustion Science and Technology, 1988
Abstract Renormalization group approach to the problem of turbulent flame speed, alternative to that recently adopted by Yakhot is proposed An equation for turbulent flame speed as a function of the turbulent field intensity is derived. The “bending” effect, resembling that known from experiments, is described.

The influence of turbulence intensity and laminar flame speed on turbulent flame propagation under engine like conditions

Symposium (International) on Combustion, 1991
The influence of turbulence and the laminar flame velocity on the turbulent flame propagation is investigated using a single stroke compression-expansion machine with a square piston. Two cylinder walls were made of glass to allow optical access. A multiple spark gap ignition system produces a quasi two-dimensional flame.

Numerical Calculation of Turbulent Premixed Flames with an Efficient Turbulent Flame Speed Closure Model

2002
A numerical model for premixed gaseous turbulent combustion is investigated, where the combustion process is modelled in terms of a single transport equation for a reaction progress variablecThe reaction term of the progress variable is modelled with an efficient turbulent flame speed closure approach.

The turbulent flame speed for low-to-moderate turbulence intensities

2014
Premixed flame propagation in two-dimensional turbulent flows is examined within the context of a hydrodynamic model. The flame is treated as a surface of density discontinuity and propagates against a turbulent flow of prescribed intensity and scale. A hybrid Navier-Stokes/interface capturing technique is used to describe the flow field throughout the
