Turbulent and Stable/Unstable Laminar Burning Velocity Measurements from Outwardly Propagating Spherical Hydrogen-Air Flames at Elevated Pressures

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Science and Technology, 2006
The laminar burning velocity of pre-mixed hydrogen-air mixtures was measured in a fan stirred combustion bomb. Unstretched laminar burning velocities and Markstein lengths were obtained at 0.10MPa for equivalence ratios of 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0 using ...

Topology and flame speeds of turbulent premixed flame kernels in supersonic flows

open access: yesCombustion and Flame, 2019
Abstract Premixed flame kernels exposed to a mean expanding supersonic channel flow are examined using experiments and large-eddy simulations. Four cases, spanning three Mach numbers and two equivalence ratios, are explored. Numerical results are processed similarly to and compared with experimental data.

Simultaneous In-Cylinder Flow Measurement and Flame Imaging in a Realistic Operating Engine Environment Using High-Speed PIV

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Among multiple factors that affect the quality of combustion, the intricate and complex interaction between in-cylinder flow/turbulent field and flame propagation is one of the most important.

Numerical Simulation of Flow and Flame Dynamics of a Pool Fire Under Combined Effects of Wind and Slope

open access: yesFire
Wind has a significant effect on pool fire behavior, which is relevant to many fire conditions, such as wildfires, building fires, and oil transportation fires.

Displacement speeds in turbulent premixed flame simulations

open access: yes, 2008
The theory of turbulent premixed flames is based on a characterization of the flame as a discontinuous surface propagating through the fluid. The displacement speed, defined as the local speed of the flame front normal to itself, relative to the unburned fluid, provides one characterization of the burning velocity.

Study on the Deflagration Characteristics of Methane–Air Premixed Gas in Sudden Expansion Pipelines

open access: yesEnergies
This study employs both experimental and numerical simulation methods to systematically investigate the influence of sudden expansion diameter ratios on methane–air premixed flame propagation, explosion overpressure, and the evolution of turbulent ...
