Turbulent Prandtl number from isotropically forced turbulence
Turbulent motions enhance the diffusion of large-scale flows and temperature gradients. Such diffusion is often parameterized by coefficients of turbulent viscosity ( $\nu _{t}$ ) and turbulent thermal diffusivity ( $\chi _{t}$ ) that are analogous to their microscopic counterparts.

This experiment used a parallel array of hot wire probes to simultaneously measure the temperature and velocity fields in the non-isothermal turbulent boundary layer of a rotating straight channel. The Reynolds numbers are 15,000 and 25,000, respectively.

On the turbulent Prandtl number in homogeneous stably stratified turbulence [PDF]
In this paper, we derive a general relationship for the turbulent Prandtl number Prt for homogeneous stably stratified turbulence from the turbulent kinetic energy and scalar variance equations. A formulation for the turbulent Prandtl number, Prt, is developed in terms of a mixing length scale LM and an overturning length scale LE, the ratio of the ...

The anisotropy of low prandtl number turbulent convection [PDF]
A model for homogeneous anisotropic incompressible turbulence is proposed. The model generalizes the GISS model of homogeneous isotropic turbulence; the generalization involves the solution of the GISS equations along a set of integration paths in wavenumber (k-) space.

In the simple gradient diffusion hypothesis, the turbulent Prandtl number (Prt) with a constant of 0.85 is difficult to accurately predict for liquid metals having low Prandtl numbers (Pr), while a four-equation model can improve this solution by ...

Rayleigh and Prandtl number scaling in the bulk of Rayleigh–Bénard turbulence [PDF]
The Ra and Pr number scaling of the Nusselt number Nu, the Reynolds number Re, the temperature fluctuations, and the kinetic and thermal dissipation rates is studied for (numerical) homogeneous Rayleigh–Bénard turbulence, i.e., Rayleigh–Bénard turbulence with periodic boundary conditions in all directions and a volume forcing of the temperature field ...
