Premixed Turbulent Combustion In Counterflowing Streams

Combustion Science and Technology, 1989
Abstract Premixed turbulent combustion of propane and air is studied experimentally using counterflowing axisymmetric jets. Attributes of this type of burner arrangement for studying turbulent combustion are discussed in terms of flame geometry, bulk and turbulent stretch rates, solid boundaries and measurement access.

Marker fields for turbulent premixed combustion

Combustion and Flame, 2004
Novel methods for generating a marker field in turbulent premixed combustion are described. The marker field is used to provide a mapping for the progress variable of the flame reaction. It is conjectured that at low Damkohler numbers conditional moment closure for the progress variable, conditional on the marking scalar, will be feasible.

Partially premixed diffusion flamelets in non-premixed turbulent combustion

Symposium (International) on Combustion, 1985
The structure and extinction of partially premixed diffusion flamelets in a turbulent flow field is analyzed. It is shown that diffusion flamelets are disconnected if the variation of the mixture fraction around stoichiometric is large enough for the corresponding adiabatic flame temperature to be less than a characteristic freezing temperature. At the

Partially Premixed Combustion in Lifted Turbulent Jets

Combustion Science and Technology, 2000
This article reports observations of structures consistent with triple flame reaction zones in the stabilization region of turbulent nonpremixed jet flames. Previous studies of laminar mixing layers and nonpremixed jets show Hi brachial structures, however reports of triple flame structures in turbulent flowfields are sparse, The asymmetric coflow ...

An EDC-based turbulent premixed combustion model

Combustion Theory and Modelling, 2011
In the present study, a new turbulent premixed combustion model is proposed by integrating the Coherent Flame Model with the modified eddy dissipation concept, and relating the fine structure mass fraction to the flame surface density. First, experimental results of turbulent flame speed available from literature are compared with the predicted results

Turbulent premixed combustion modelling using fractal geometry

Symposium (International) on Combustion, 1991
The fractal geometry concept has been applied to the problem of turbulent premixed flame propagation. This approach has been based on the fact that turbulent surfaces are wrinkled over a wide range of scales, and experimental evidence shows that the scales are self-similar.

Numerical Simulations of Partially Premixed Turbulent Combustion

2002
Turbulent flame propagation through non-homogeneous reactant mixtures is investigated using high-resolution two-dimensional numerical simulation, including detailed chemical kinetics and molecular transport. Systematic variations in the distribution of reactant composition are imposed, and the effect of these variations on the primary propagating flame,
