Turbulent transport properties for axisymmetric heterogeneous mixing

Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1964
Abstract : An experimental investigation of the turbulent mixing of two dissimilar gases for both subsonic and supersonic flows is presented. This investigation was carried out in order to determine the turbulent transport coefficients for hydrogen-, helium-, and argon-air mixtures in the mixing region of two coaxial jets.

Momentum transport in a turbulent mixing layer

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, 1989
AbstractThe turbulent momentum transport phenomena in a two‐dimensional mixing layer are investigated numerically by a discrete vortex method. The numerical model and calculations are verified through a comparison with existing numerical simulations and experimental measurements.

Second Order Modeling of Turbulent Transport in the Surface Mixed Layer

Boundary-Layer Meteorology, 1984
A model for the simultaneous transport of heat and water vapor is presented. In an effort to resolve the structure of the entrainment region at the inversion base, models are constructed so as to satisfy realizability as far as possible. Density anomaly and water vapor mixture fraction (specific humidity) are taken as the basic variables.

Turbulent and Pressure Transport in a Curved Mixing Layer

The Physics of Fluids, 1967
The turbulent transport terms in an unstable curved mixing layer were measured so that the pressure transport terms were the terms in the energy balance obtained by difference. The turbulent and pressure transport terms are of the same order of magnitude.

Turbulent mixing and transport in a thermally stratified interfacial layer in decaying grid turbulence

Physics of Fluids A: Fluid Dynamics, 1991
A stably stratified mixing layer, sandwiched in between regions of neutral turbulence, was studied in decaying grid turbulence. The layer, which was shearless, was formed by heating the upper half of the flow by means of elements placed at the entrance to the plenum of a large, open circuit low speed wind tunnel 0.91×0.91 m2 in cross section and 9.14 m

Turbulent density transport in the mixing layer of an unsteady gravity current

Advances in Water Resources, 2021
Abstract Turbulent mixing is a key process influencing the dynamics of subaqueous gravity currents. In this study, the evolution of the local turbulent mixing dynamics along a lock-exchange gravity current propagating over a mild slope is statistically investigated by ensemble-averaging and spanwise-averaging 200 large eddy simulation results at two ...

SCALAR TRANSPORT AND MIXING IN TURBULENT STRATIFIED SHEAR FLOW

Proceeding of First Symposium on Turbulence and Shear Flow Phenomena, 1999
In this study, the evolution of the velocity field and scalar concentration fields in stably stratified shear flow is studied using direct numerical simulations. Two cases with vertical mean shear and horizontal mean shear are compared. In both cases, the growth of the turbulent kinetic energy weakens as the Richardson number is increased. However, the

Microstructure profiler to study mixing and turbulent transport processes

IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society. OCEANS'98. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.98CH36259), 2002
The MST (Microstructure-Turbulence) Profiler is a newly developed operational microstructure measuring system for marine turbulence measurements. The profiler can be used for sinking and uprising measurements and is equipped with a new type of current shear sensor. The authors have tested the MST Profiler in several field measuring campaigns.
