Transporting passive additives in a turbulent medium under convective mixing

Izvestiya, Atmospheric and Oceanic Physics, 2009
The vertical transport of passive additives in a medium in the presence of both turbulent and convective mixing is studied. It is shown that, despite the fact that turbulent and convective fluxes are uncorrelated, no additive mechanism of mixing exists.

Modeling of Transport and Mixing Phenomena in Turbulent Flows in Closed Domains

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2015
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">In this work, a transport and mixing model that calculates mixing in thermodynamic phase space was derived and validated. The mixing in thermodynamic multizone space is consistent to the one in the spatially resolved physical space.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph ...

Scalar flux transport models for self-similar turbulent mixing

Physical Review E
A common approach to closing turbulent species flux in multicomponent Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes models is to use the standard gradient diffusion approximation. While such an approach has been shown to work well when applied to many canonical turbulent mixing configurations, a gradient diffusion approach is fundamentally limited in its ability to ...

Transport of Heat Across a Plane Turbulent Mixing Layer

1975
Publisher Summary A well-known characteristic of turbulent shear flows is that the spread of scalar quantities—that is, heat or matter, is faster than the spread of momentum. This chapter describes a model for the transport mechanism of a scalar quantity in typical turbulent shear flows.

Experimental Studies of Scalar Transport and Mixing in a Turbulent Shear Flow

2015
High resolution, multi-sensor, hot/cold-wire measurements were made in passively heated, uniformly sheared turbulence in a wind-tunnel. Measurements were focused on terms that are important for modelling of the scalar probability density function (PDF) equation.
