ONU transmit power levelling for TWDM-PONs

2014 12th International Conference on Optical Internet 2014 (COIN), 2014
In this paper, we investigate the required range of ONU transmit power levelling for TWDM-PONs based on the worst case inter-channel crosstalk analysis. To overcome the crosstalk impairment, an OLT-shared architecture of the ONU transmit power levelling and its operation rule is also proposed. Keywords—inter-channel crrostalk, power levelling, TWDM-

Experimental Study of Type B Protection for TWDM-PON System

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2014
Protection switching time is important factors in TWDM-PON system for business application because it defines the service outage time when failure occurs. An experiment using TWDM-PON assumed 40G-PON system shows that the protection switching time is 25.7 ms.

Trading Energy Savings and Network Performance in Reconfigurable TWDM-PONs

Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2015
In time and wavelength division multiplexed (TWDM) passive optical networks (PONs), energy savings at the optical line termination (OLT) are achievable by dynamically allocating the number of active wavelengths in the network and by turning off unutilized OLT transceivers.

Economic Analysis of TWDM PONs: A Sustainability and Policy-Making Perspective

Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2019
The time- and wavelength-division-multiplexed (TWDM) passive optical network (PON) is a popular choice for future access technology. However, a comprehensive understanding of its economics is still beyond the reach of the current literature. For example, it is not clearly understood which techno-economic factors make this technology sustainable ...

ONU Aggregation Schemes for TWDM PONs With Multiple Tuning Ranges

Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2017
Time- and wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical networks (TWDM PONs) have been regarded as a promising solution to meet the ever-increasing bandwidth demands of optical access networks. To reduce the investment on deploying TWDM PONs, operators can share the network infrastructures, isolated through wavelengths and timeslots.

Fault-tolerable and SLA-supportive architecture for TWDM-PON systems

Photonic Network Communications, 2015
In this paper, a protection architecture that can be applied to NG-PON2 system, or TWDM-PON, is proposed. NG-PON2 system provides bandwidth as much as 80 Gbps in downstream, and the system failure may cause a serious problem. Therefore, its protection becomes more important issue. We solved this problem by making a pair of OLTs protect with each other.

Experimental Demonstration of a Symmetric 40-Gb/s TWDM-PON

Optical Fiber Communication Conference/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference 2013, 2013
We demonstrate a symmetric 40-Gb/s TWDM-PON system using a single tunable optical filter for both downstream wavelength selection and chirp management of upstream directly modulated laser, which supports 25-km feeder fiber and 1:256 splitting ratio.

ITU TWDM-PON Module for ns-3 Network Simulator

2019
Optical fiber access systems are one of the driving forces behind the success of the Internet. Time- and wavelength- division multiplexing passive optical network (TWDM-PON) is regarded as the key technology for future Internet access networks. In this paper, we propose an ITU TWDM-PON module for the ns-3 network simulator and describe its concept and ...

Next generation hybrid wireless-optical access with TWDM-PON

2014 23rd Wireless and Optical Communication Conference (WOCC), 2014
This paper reviews the latest progress in ITU-T standards on high-speed access networks. We focus on the employment of the time and wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network (TWDM-PON) for the next generation wireline and wireless broadband services. Several applications with TWDM-PON are proposed.
