Optoelectronic tweezers

Nature Materials, 2005
A low-power light image projected on a photoconductive layer can initiate non-uniform electric fields over a large area, and allow the manipulation and sorting of particles without wires and electrodes and in the absence of flow.

New approaches in the design of magnetic tweezers–current magnetic tweezers

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2016
Abstract The main advantages of the magnetic tweezers are the low price and simplicity of use. However the range of their application is reduced due to shortcomings like, for example, the remanent induction of the core and interaction between ferromagnetic cores.

Introduction to Optical Tweezers

2016
Thirty years after their invention by Arthur Ashkin and colleagues at Bell Labs in 1986 [1], optical tweezers (or traps) have become a versatile tool to address numerous biological problems. Put simply, an optical trap is a highly focused laser beam that is capable of holding and applying forces to micron-sized dielectric objects.

Optical Tweezers

2017
This book gives an accessible, detailed overview on techniques of single molecule biophysics (SMB), showing how they are applied to numerous biological problems associated with understanding the molecular mechanisms of DNA replication, transcription, and translation, as well as functioning of molecular machines.

Spectral tweezers: Single sample spectroscopy using optoelectronic tweezers

Applied Physics Letters
A scheme that combines optoelectronic tweezers (OET) with spectroscopic analysis is presented. Referred to as spectral tweezers, the approach uses a single focused light beam that acts both as the trapping beam for OET and the probe beam for spectroscopy.

Optical Tweezers

2010
The technical development of optical tweezers, along with their application in the biological and physical sciences, has progressed significantly since the demonstration of an optical trap for micron-sized particles based on a single, tightly focused laser beam was first reported more than twenty years ago.
