Comparison of Definitions of Severe Maternal Morbidity: A National Cohort Study Using Administrative Data

open access: yesBJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics &Gynaecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To understand agreement between definitions of severe maternal morbidity (SMM), the reasons for disagreement and the impact the outcome definition may have on the measurement of ethnic and socioeconomic inequalities. Design A national cohort study using administrative data. Setting The English National Health Service.

Imaging of Abdominal Complications in Children With Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia

open access: yesJournal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) is the most common paediatric malignancy and remains one of the most common causes of cancer‐related death in children and adolescents. Five‐year overall survival rates now exceed 90% with current multidrug chemotherapeutic regimens. This improvement, coupled with the toxicity of chemotherapy, has led to the

Myeloablative Busulfan, Fludarabine and Melphalan Conditioning for Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation in Childhood Myeloid Malignancy

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Clinical Oncology, EarlyView.
We report our single‐center experience of transplant outcomes with a busulfan, fludarabine and melphalan‐based conditioning regimen for children < 18 years of age. The regimen was shown to be well tolerated and effective for heavily pretreated children with high‐risk myeloid malignancies prior to allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant.

Ischaemic Optic Neuropathy After Cardiac Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis of Incidence and Risk Factors

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Across 11 observational studies comprising 6 471 577 patients, the pooled incidence of ischaemic optic neuropathy after cardiac surgery was approximately 1.5 cases per 10 000 procedures. Coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease and anaemia were associated with increased odds of ION, although these findings should be interpreted in the ...

Agreement between cardiac cycle time intervals and myocardial velocities measured by automated analysis of color tissue Doppler cine loops and by manual tracing of spectral pulsed‐wave tissue Doppler waveforms of sheep fetal heart under normal and pathological conditions: An experimental study

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
Automated cTDI in sheep fetuses provided reproducible measurements of myocardial velocities and heart rate that align well with manual pulsed‐wave TDI. For cardiac cycle duration metrics, the two modalities are not interchangeable. These findings support that automated cTDI is well suited for longitudinal assessment under both physiological and ...

Magnesium sulfate for neuroprotection before preterm birth: Uptake and adherence in clinical practice after National Guideline Implementation

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
National implementation of magnesium sulfate for fetal neuroprotection achieved high but incomplete uptake in Denmark. Approximately 20% of eligible women remained untreated, revealing persistent implementation gaps related to gestational age and delivery circumstances.

When Machine Perfusion Falls Short: Identifying Risks of Liver Graft Failure After Normothermic Machine Perfusion

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Analysis of 4928 normothermic machine perfusion liver transplants reveals that recipient factors, particularly MELD ≥ 35, surgical complexity, ICU status, and functional impairment are stronger predictors of graft failure than donor characteristics, emphasizing the continued importance of clinical judgment in patient selection.

SURGELLA: A Scoping Review of Impella‐Assisted Hemodynamic Support in High‐Risk Non‐Cardiac Surgery

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
In selected patients with severe LV dysfunction, Impella‐supported non‐cardiac surgery may provide a temporary hemodynamic bridge to otherwise prohibitive procedures. Published evidence remains limited to a small number of highly selected cases, supporting technical feasibility rather than comparative benefit or generalizable safety.

Prognostic models for predicting sight‐threatening retinopathy of prematurity in preterm infants: A systematic review

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract To identify, describe and critically appraise studies developing and/or validating models for predicting sight‐threatening retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in preterm infants undergoing screening in neonatal intensive care units. PubMed, Embase via Ovid, trial registers, and grey literature were searched from inception to 21 October 2025 ...
