1,2‐propanediol reformulation improves tribromoethanol safety and reveals pontine GABRA1 enrichment as a candidate mechanistic correlate of anesthesia

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
This study develops a reformulated tribromoethanol (TBE) anesthetic using 1,2‐propanediol as a solvent to overcome solvent‐related toxicity. The novel formulation demonstrates, cardiovascular stability, and survival in prolonged protocols. It provides potent, dose‐dependent anesthesia without strain or sex differences.

Possible protective role of the absence of Hyrtl’s anastomosis in monochorionic pregnancy: exploratory case series

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
ObjectiveHyrtl’s anastomosis, an intra-arterial shunt, serves a protective function in singleton placentas. Our team previously documented a case of a monochorionic (MC) twin placenta lacking Hyrtl’s anastomosis. However, research on the impact of absent

A Case of Monochorionic-Triamniotic Triplet Pregnancy with TRAP Sequence Successfully Treated with Radiofrequency Ablation with a Parallel Circuit Consisting of Anastomosed Blood Vessels between the Direct Pump Fetus and the Indirect Pump Fetus

open access: yesCase Reports in Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2019
Monochorionic-triamniotic triplet pregnancy with twin reversed arterial perfusion (TRAP) sequence is one of the rare complications of multiple pregnancy and has been reported by only a few.

Neutrophil Extracellular Traps Block Fibrinolysis in Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objectives Intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) failure in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is frequent, but its causes remain elusive. We investigated whether biologically relevant intrathrombus concentrations of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) were achieved in failed IVT and whether neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) contributed to this therapeutic ...

A critical reappraisal of the carotid sinus and carotid bulb: Distinguishing neurohistological function from vascular geometry

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
This review redefines the carotid bulb (CB) as a variable geometric dilation shaped by hemodynamics and the carotid sinus (CS) as a conserved neurohistological baroreceptor field. Distinguishing these entities clarifies a century of anatomical confusion and links geometry, neurohistology, and clinical interpretation within a unified framework ...

Twin-Reversed Arterial Perfusion (TRAP) Sequence: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesGynecology & Reproductive Health
Introduction and Importance: The TRAP sequence or cardiac mass is a serious pathology that occurs in monochorionic twin pregnancies, characterised by the absence of development of cardiac structures with a series of malformations in the transfused fetus,

Dissecting the dissection laboratory: Elements for designing a human anatomy laboratory

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract The human anatomy dissection laboratory is a critical component of anatomical and medical education. Development, maintenance, and stocking of these laboratory spaces have unique demands, with all of the challenges in running a laboratory with Biosafety Laboratory Level 2 (BSL‐2) classification, housing a large volume of tissues saturated with

Trap Sequence: Case Report

open access: yesGynecology Obstetrics & Reproductive Medicine, 2014
TRAP (Twin Reversed Arterial Perfusion) sequence is a rare syndrome seen in monochorionic twin pregnancies. It occurs in 1% of monochorionic twin pregnancies. It is characterized with a recipient fetus exhibiting lethal anomalies including acardia and a

Blood pressure effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists: Mechanisms, trial evidence and Real‐world data

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists modestly lower blood pressure across diverse patient populations, including those without diabetes. These effects appear largely independent of glycaemic control and offer additive value in high‐risk patients with overlapping comorbidities.
