Hardening mechanism of commercially pure Mg processed by high pressure torsion at room temperature

open access: yes, 2014
Coarse-grained Mg in the as-cast condition and fine-grained Mg in the extruded condition were processed by high pressure torsion (HPT) at room temperature for up to 16 turns. Microstructure observation and texture analysis indicate that to fulfil the Von

Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...

Impact of Deformation Twinning on the Mechanical Properties of B.C.C.-Lattice-Based Alloys

open access: yesУспехи физики металлов, 2017
Deformation twinning exerts a great influence on the low-temperature plasticity of b.c.c. metals. The article reviews publications relating to this problem.

Polymorphism and pseudosymmetry of 10,10′-oxybis(9-thia-10-hydro-10-boraanthracene)

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E: Crystallographic Communications, 2019
We have encountered two polymorphs of the title compound, C24H16B2OS2, both of which display almost the same unit-cell parameters. Compound (I) crystallizes in the non-centrosymmetric space group P21 with four molecules in the asymmetric unit.

Affecting the Properties of Copper–Graphene Electroconductive Composite by Severe Plastic Deformation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Copper‐based composites enhanced with carbon feature convenient mechanical properties and favorable electric conductivity. Processing via deformation and thermomechanical treatments can introduce advantageous microstructures further enhancing their performance. Herein, copper–graphene powder‐based composites are directly consolidated via rotary swaging

Twinned silicon and germanium nanocrystals: Formation, stability and quantum confinement

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2015
Although twins are often observed in Si/Ge nanocrystals (NCs), little theoretical investigation has been carried out to understand this type of important planar defects in Si/Ge NCs.

Nucleation of {1012} Twins in Magnesium through Reversible Martensitic Phase Transformation

open access: yesMetals, 2020
We report the discovery of a rigorous nucleation mechanism for {101¯2} twins in hexagonal close-packed (hcp) magnesium through reversible hcp-tetragonal-hcp martensitic phase transformations with a metastable tetragonal phase as the intermediate state ...

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.
