HLA Haplotypes in Dizygotic Twin Pairs: Are Dizygotic Twins More Similar Than Sibs? [PDF]

open access: yesTwin Research, 2002
AbstractIt has been suggested that dizygotic twin pairs share two HLA haplotypes more often than ordinary siblings and thus might be genetically more alike. We tested this hypothesis in dizygotic twin pairs from the Danish Twin Registry. A total of 114 (60 female and 54 male) same-sexed healthy twin pairs aged 18–45 years participated.

Craniofacial Skeletal Dysplasia of Opposite-Sex Dizygotic Twins

open access: yes, 2012
Craniofacial skeletal dysplasia can lead to different skeletal malocclusions. Both environmental factors and heredity contribute to the formation of malocclusions.

Twins Early Development Study: a genetically sensitive investigation into behavioural and cognitive development from infancy to emerging adulthood

open access: yesTwin Research and Human Genetics, 2019
The Twins Early Development Study (TEDS) is a longitudinal twin study that recruited over 16,000 twin-pairs born between 1994 and 1996 in England and Wales through national birth records. More than 10,000 of these families are still engaged in the study.

Self-Reported Scoliosis is Not a Valid Method for Estimating Concordance Rates of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis in a Danish Twin Population

open access: yesGlobal Spine Journal, 2015
Introduction The etiology of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is still unclear and the true mode of inheritance has yet to be established. From the Danish twin cohort concordance rates in monozygotic twins have previously been reported to be 0.13 and in ...

Female Monozygotic Twins with Anorexia Nervosa

open access: yesNeuropsychiatric Investigation, 2016
Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a serious eating disorder with higher morbidity and mortality rates. Higher concordance rates for monozygotic twins than for dizygotic twins have been shown in most twin studies.

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia in dizygotic twins

open access: yes, 2015
Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is sometimes seen in siblings but is rarely seen in twins, and five survived cases of CDH in monozygotic or dizygotic twins have been reported in the English literature. Here we report a sixth survived case of CDH in

Impact of the Genome on the Epigenome Is Manifested in DNA Methylation Patterns of Imprinted Regions in Monozygotic and Dizygotic Twins

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
One of the best studied read-outs of epigenetic change is the differential expression of imprinted genes, controlled by differential methylation of imprinted control regions (ICRs).

Dementia risk in women higher in same‐sex than opposite‐sex twins

open access: yesAlzheimer’s & Dementia: Diagnosis, Assessment & Disease Monitoring, 2020
Introduction Hormones may be one possible mechanism underlying sex differences in dementia incidence. We examined whether presumed differential prenatal hormone milieu is related to dementia risk by comparing dementia rates in same‐ and opposite‐sex ...

Utilizing twins as controls for non-twin case-materials in genome wide association studies. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Twin registries around the globe have collected DNA samples from large numbers of monozygotic and dizygotic twins. The twin sample collections are frequently used as controls in disease-specific studies together with non-twins.
