Oriented attachment induces fivefold twins by forming and decomposing high-energy grain boundaries
Finding the fivefold path Crystals formed in nature or synthesized in a lab can have domains with different orientations that are called twins. Having five of these domains is relatively common, but how these fivefold twins form is still a mystery.

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Molecular design of dynamically thermoresponsive biomaterials
Dynamically thermoresponsive biomaterials, particularly those utilizing poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm), have attracted much attention in biomedical applications due to their reversible phase transition near body temperature.

Risk for surviving twin after fetal death of co-twin in twin–twin transfusion syndrome
To determine neonatal outcome of surviving twins in pregnancies complicated by twin-twin transfusion syndrome and fetal deaths of co-twins.We retrospectively reviewed medical records of 11 women seen during 1990-1996 in our hospital who had pregnancies complicated by twin-twin transfusion syndrome and death of one fetus. The median interval between ...

About The Importance of Autonomy and Digital Twins for the Future of Manufacturing
Industrie 4.0 - the “brand” name of the German initiative driving the future of manufacturing - is one of several initiatives around the globe emphasizing the importance of industrial manufacturing for economy and society. Besides the socio-economical if

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Fabrication of Three-Dimensional HepG2 Liver Tissue by Centrifugation
Background: We previously developed a rapid three-dimensional (3-D) tissue fabrication method using centrifugation. In this study, we fabricated 3-D HepG2 liver tissues using a scaffold-free centrifugation method and analyzed them biochemically. Methods:

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Emergenesis: Genetic traits that may not run in familes. [PDF]
Traits that are influenced by a configuration--rather than by a simple sum-- of polymorphic genes may not be seen to be genetic unless one studies monozygotic twins (who share all their genes and thus all gene configurations) because such emergenic ...

Digital Twins: Bridging Physical Space and Cyberspace
A digital twin is a digital model of a real entity, the physical twin (such as an object, a process, or a complex aggregation). It is both a digital shadow reflecting the status/operation of its physical twin and a digital thread recording the evolution ...
