Is Small Perfect? Size Limit to Defect Formation in Pyramidal Pt Nanocontacts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We report high resolution transmission electron microscopy and ab initio calculation results for the defect formation in Pt nanocontacts (NCs). Our results show that there is a size limit to the existence of twins (extended structural defects).

Twin to twin transfusion syndrome [PDF]

open access: yesTranslational Pediatrics, 2021
Twin to twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) is a common complication that typically presents in the second trimester of pregnancy in 10-15% of monochorionic twins due to net transfer of volume and hormonal substances from one twin to the other across vascular anastomoses on the placenta.

Impacts of grid‐scale battery systems on power system operation, case of Baltic region

open access: yesIET Smart Grid
Grid stability can be affected by the large‐scale utilisation of renewable energy sources because there are fluctuations in generation and load. These issues can be effectively addressed by grid‐scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), which can ...

Establishment of an Assay with Ultrahigh Sensitivity for Detecting sEV-Derived PD-L1 as a Serum Biomarker for Lung Cancer—A Pilot Study Using TN-cyclon™

open access: yesCurrent Issues in Molecular Biology
Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) is an immune checkpoint protein. The soluble form of PD-L1 (sPD-L1) and PD-L1 derived from small extracellular vesicles (sEVPD-L1) are promising cancer biomarkers.

The detailed chemical composition of the terrestrial planet host Kepler-10

open access: yes, 2015
Chemical abundance studies of the Sun and solar twins have demonstrated that the solar composition of refractory elements is depleted when compared to volatile elements, which could be due to the formation of terrestrial planets.

The twin paradox in compact spaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Twins travelling at constant relative velocity will each see the other's time dilate leading to the apparent paradox that each twin believes the other ages more slowly.

Sickle Cell Disease Is an Inherent Risk for Asthma in a Sibling Comparison Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Sickle cell disease (SCD) and asthma share a complex relationship. Although estimates vary, asthma prevalence in children with SCD is believed to be comparable to or higher than the general population. Determining whether SCD confers an increased risk for asthma remains challenging due to overlapping symptoms and the ...

Crystal structure of (S)-4-carbamoyl-4-(1,3-dioxoisoindolin-2-yl)butanoic acid

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E: Crystallographic Communications, 2015
In the title compound, C13H12N2O5, the phthalimide ring system is essentially planar, with a maximum deviation of 0.0479 (14) Å. In the crystal, each molecule is linked via six neighbouring molecules into a three-dimensional network through N—H...O and O—

Psychosocial Outcomes in Patients With Endocrine Tumor Syndromes: A Systematic Review

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction The combination of disease manifestations, the familial burden, and varying penetrance of endocrine tumor syndromes (ETSs) is unique. This review aimed to portray and summarize available data on psychosocial outcomes in patients with ETSs and explore gaps and opportunities for future research and care.

Total serum N-glycans associate with response to immune checkpoint inhibition therapy and survival in patients with advanced melanoma

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2023
Background Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have revolutionized the treatment of melanoma and other cancers. However, no reliable biomarker of survival or response has entered the clinic to identify those patients with melanoma who are most likely to ...
