Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have made remarkable success in image classification. However, it is still an open problem how to develop new models instead of CNNs. Here, we propose a novel model, namely, two-dimensional perceptron (TDP), to get direct input of 2D data for further processing.

Summary: The paper considers packing of rectangles into an infinite bin. Similar to the Tetris game, the rectangles arrive from the top and, once placed, cannot be moved again. The rectangles are moved inside the bin to reach their place. For the case in which rotations are allowed, we design an algorithm whose performance ratio is constant.

Dynamics of two-dimensional and quasi-two-dimensional polymers
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2013The dynamic properties of dense two-dimensional (2D) polymer melts are studied using discontinuous molecular dynamics simulations. Both strictly 2D and quasi-2D systems are investigated. The strictly 2D model system consists of a fluid of freely jointed tangent hard disc chains.

We have proposed an innovative communication device, the Two– Dimensional Communication sheet (2DC sheet). The nodes touching to the 2DC sheet can communicate with each other with 54 Mbps of bandwidth and can acquire 10 W of electricity. The 2DC sheet requires no direct electrical contact between the nodes and the sheet.

A new user-oriented programming system for the purpose of facilitating the programming and analysis of well-formulated problems has been designed and implemented at Columbia University, Hudson Laboratories. This system consists of a standard Flexowriter modified to construct two-dimensional mathematical expressions and a new programming language.

The present visual language supports the imperative programming style and claims to improve program comprehension by resemblance. It can be characterized as follows: 1) Its scope is the static description of code, data and flow control as well as of the surrounding architecture including classes, components, modules, up to systems.

Two-dimensional schur algorithm
Computer Standards & Interfaces, 1998A 2-D Schur algorithm for the AR modelling of 2-D fields using appropriately defined quarter-plane prediction error fields is developed. First- and second-quadrant gapped functions at each stage are used to compute the lattice parameter factors. A simple procedure is developed to calculate the 2-D transfer function from the given lattice parameter ...

Quasi-two-dimensional hydrodynamics and problems of two-dimensional turbulence
Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 1994The principal problems of quasi-two-dimensional (Q2-D) hydrodynamics are discussed. Accounting for Q2-D flow vertical structure is shown to eliminate ‘‘genetic’’ defects of the formal 2-D idealization of 3-D Navier–Stokes equations and allows under certain conditions to formulate corrected 2-D motion equations which adequately describe real ...
