The field equations that result from the use of R2–the square of the Ricci scalar – in the gravitational action are studied in two dimensions. Some general features of the model are noted; in particular, the existence of a solution R=Λ. The form of the static vacuum metrics is obtained. The problem of cosmology is discussed.

Two-Dimensional Awareness Logics
Journal of Philosophical Logic, 2004The authors suggest to blend awareness logic and two-dimensional logic to model actual belief. Two-dimensional logic is a four-valued logic which goes back to Bergmann's discussion on presupposition. Three different logics to model awareness and actual belief are presented. The soundness and completeness theorems for two of them are proved.

Piezoelectricity in Two‐Dimensional Materials
Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2015Powering up 2D materials: Recent experimental studies confirmed the existence of piezoelectricity—the conversion of mechanical stress into electricity—in two-dimensional single-layer MoS2 nanosheets. The results represent a milestone towards embedding low-dimensional materials into future disruptive technologies.

On two-dimensional superconductors
Physica Scripta, 1989The problem of the two-dimensional superconductivity is discussed. Can two-dimensional superconductors exist? To the best of my knowledge, this question was first formulated in 1964 on an example of quite a concrete system electrons on the surface levels of a solid [1].

Two-Dimensional Optical Storage
Proceedings. (ICASSP '05). IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2005., 2006With storage capacities increasing much faster than data rates, fast read-out of content is becoming a bottleneck for the convenient use of optical storage devices. Two-dimensional optical storage (TwoDOS) is a new concept that solves this data-rate problem by using a multi-spot parallel readout system.

This chapter is designed to provide the reader with an overview of two-dimensional transforms and their uses in digital picture processing by general purpose computers. The notation is selected such that casual familiarity with matrix algebra should be sufficient to grasp the basic principles of image coding and restoration in conjunction with the use ...

Two-Dimensional Electrophoresis
1997In organelles, cells and tissues of all organisms complex functions and metabolic reactions are maintained by proteins within and at the surface of each compartment. The number of proteins occurring in a biological compartment corresponds to the complexity of the functions it has to fulfill.
