Paved Shoulders on Primary Highways in Iowa: An Analysis of Shoulder Surfacing Criteria, Costs, and Benefits, 2001 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The value of providing paved shoulders adjacent to many higher volume roadways has been accepted in many states across the country. Iowa’s paved shoulder policy is considerably more conservative than neighboring states, particularly on rural four-lane

Analytical study of the lane-by-lane variation for lane-utility and traffic safety performance assessment using NGSIM data

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
Highlights the shortcoming of using aggregate data as a whole with the assumption of similar lane-use-pattern over lanes, traffic variations are attentively investigated to explore traffic dynamics distribution both in lane-utility in efficiency and ...

Developing a universal tunnel span classification from global tunnel databases

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A universal tunnel span classification system is introduced that incorporates tunnel span, cross‐sectional area, typical tunnel types, and intended uses. Representative flatness ratio values are also provided for each span class. The classification is derived from a comprehensive database of 450 tunnel profiles from 47 countries.

Disentangling contract and law: Legal specificity and contractual governance in public–private partnerships

open access: yesStrategic Management Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Research Summary This study examines how legal design shapes contractual governance in public–private partnership (PPP). We argue that PPP‐specific laws do not simply strengthen institutional safeguards; by varying in detail, they also alter the flexibility available for project‐level contracting.

Platoon-Based Assessment of Two-Way Two-Lane Roads Performance Measure: A Classification Method

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Transportation, 2023
Two-way two-lane roads have a significant impact on road transportation infrastructure. Platoon formation on two-lane roads is one of the factors that affect the quality of traffic flow on two-lane roads.

Are client ties pre‐entry resources? Performance implications of client tie diversification

open access: yesStrategic Management Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Research Summary This study investigates client tie diversification, where firms enter markets with existing clients. Recognizing the theoretical basis for both positive and negative performance implications, the paper adopts a question‐driven approach and discovers a strong negative correlation between client tie diversification and firm ...

A realistic two-lane traffic model for highway traffic [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 2002
A two-lane extension of a recently proposed cellular automaton model for traffic flow is discussed. The analysis focuses on the reproduction of the lane usage inversion and the density dependence of the number of lane changes. It is shown that the single-lane dynamics can be extended to the two-lane case without changing the basic properties of the ...

Hierarchical Adaptive MPC for Autonomous Vehicle Lane Changing via PSO and GWO

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper presents an intelligent hierarchical two-layer highway lane-change planning and control framework for autonomous vehicles, integrating Adaptive Model Predictive Control (AMPC) with metaheuristic-based parameter optimization algorithms, namely ...

Line-of-Sight Obstruction Analysis for Vehicle-to-Vehicle Network Simulations in a Two-Lane Highway Scenario

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2013
In vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) the impact of vehicles as obstacles has largely been neglected in the past. Recent studies have reported that the vehicles that obstruct the line-of-sight (LOS) path may introduce 10–20 dB additional loss, and as a ...

ANN based short-term traffic flow forecasting in undivided two lane highway

open access: yesJournal of Big Data, 2018
Short term traffic forecasting is one of the important fields of study in the transportation domain. Short term traffic forecasting is very useful to develop a more advanced transportation system to control traffic signals and avoid congestions.
