Transient simulation of a two-phase loop thermosyphon with a model out of thermodynamic equilibrium

open access: yesInternational Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2017
International audienceNumerical investigation of two-phase loop thermosyphon (2PLT) in steady and transient states is addressed. A one-dimensional two-phase flow model describing a liquid-gas mixture in both mechanical and thermal equilibrium but out of ...

Experimental and Modelling Analysis of a Large-Scale Two-Phase Loop Thermosyphon

ASME 2022 Heat Transfer Summer Conference, 2022
Abstract Liquid pumping requires large quantities of electrical energy, including about 7% of the energy of building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. To replace pumped condenser-cooling tower water loops with a passive alternative system, we implemented a commercial-scale two-phase loop thermosyphon (TPLT).

Instability of a two-phase loop thermosyphon

KSME International Journal, 2002
The instability of two-phase loop thermosyphons was investigated experimentally and analytically. Three orifice type inserts were used to study the effect of change in the pressure drop in the flow channel of the TLT on the flow instability and temperature fluctuation.

Heat Transfer Performance of a Pulsated Two-Phase Loop Thermosyphon

Volume 10: Heat Transfer, Fluid Flows, and Thermal Systems, Parts A, B, and C, 2008
Thermoloop is a pulsated two-phase thermosyphon (PTPT) comprising of evaporator, condenser and a liquid reservoir with associated tubing and fittings with a view to cooling electronic devices. This study presents an experimental investigation on the thermoloop to address some issues on design and heat transfer performance.

Heat transfer in the evaporator of an advanced two-phase thermosyphon loop

International Journal of Refrigeration, 2005
Abstract As heat generation from electronic components increase and the limit of air-cooling is reached, the interest for using liquid cooling for high heat flux applications has risen. Thermosyphon cooling is an alternative liquid cooling technique, in which heat is transferred as heat of vaporization from evaporator to condenser with a relatively ...

Research on the refrigerant column height in the downcomer of a two-phase loop thermosyphon

International Journal of Refrigeration, 2018
Abstract A two-phase loop thermosyphon (TPLT) is a highly efficient heat transfer device. It is a type of gravity-assisted heat pipe system. Therefore, there is a high refrigerant column height in the downcomer that supplies the driving force for the TPLT system. This study focused on the investigation of factors that influence the refrigerant column

Experimental analysis of small two phase loop thermosyphons

2012
The authors has designed and realized a new experimental test rig for analysis of Closed Loop Two Phase Thermosyphons (CLTPT) of small dimensions in which heat input up to 1 kW can be tested. It consists of an evaporator, horizontal condenser water cooled.

Experimental study on the performance characteristics of an enhanced two-phase loop thermosyphon

Heat and Mass Transfer, 2015
A two-phase loop thermosyphon (TPLT) is an apparatus for heat transmission from the hot section of system (evaporator) to the cold part (condenser), with relatively small temperature differences. The setup used in this study consists of a TPLT, including evaporator, riser, an advanced condenser and downcomer. The condenser inlet has a nozzle. The steam

Thermal performance of two-phase thermosyphon loop in rotating thin pad

International Journal of Thermal Sciences, 2017
Abstract Thermal performances of a sub-atmospheric Rotating Two-Phase Loop Thermosyphon Pad (RTPLTP) of 1 mm channel height were experimentally studied. Flow structures of vapor-liquid circulations, boiling/condensation heat transfer rates and thermal resistances (Rth) for the RTPLTP were detected at rotor speeds of 0, 100, 300 and 500 rev/min.
