Two-way shape memory effect in a NiAl-Fe alloy
Scripta Materialia, 1996The dual phase ({beta} + {gamma}) NiAl-Fe shape memory alloys have recently been considered for their good ductility at room temperature. It was reported that the NiAl-Fe alloys quenched from high temperature show a shape recovery of 60%--80% or 90% after training, though they possess a dual phase microstructure, in which the {gamma}-phase can not ...

Phenomenological model on thermo-mechanical response of shape memory alloy (SMA) strip is presented in this paper. Thermal response and transformation accompanied deformation are described by the proposed model. Newly transformation expansion tensor is defined to describe the relationship between the transformation-induced deformation of the strip and ...

Abstract The paper presents a macroscopic description for the simulation of the two way shape memory effect (TWSME) of shape memory alloys (SMA), and is an extension of a previous work dealing with the global thermomechanical behavior of SMA. The model is set in the framework of the thermodynamics of irreversible processes. Two internal variables are

Two-way Antagonistic Shape Actuation Based on the One-way Shape Memory Effect
Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures, 2008The stress created by the austenite transformation of mechanically constrained NiTi shape memory alloys (SMAs) significantly exceeds that required to deform (detwin) its low temperature martensitic phase. The one-way shape memory effect can therefore be used to create antagonistic, fully reversible flexural shape morphing structures by assembling ...

Two‐way shape memory effect in a Ti–Zr–Nb–Ta high‐temperature shape memory alloy
Rare Metals, 2018Abstract The two‐way shape memory effect in a Ti–18.5Zr–10Nb–3.5Ta high‐temperature shape memory alloy was investigated. X‐ray diffraction measurement shows that the alloy is composed of orthorhombic α″‐martensite. ω phase is not found in Ti–18.5Zr–10Nb–3.5Ta alloy due to the suppressing effect of Ta element.

A significant two-way shape memory effect (TWSME) was demonstrated, for the first time, in a TiNiPd high-temperature shape memory alloy (SMA) with TWSM strains as high as 2.6%. This TWSME was able to perform mechanical work, with a maximum work output of 0.12 J g−1, well above the levels obtained from conventional SMAs. Microstructural changes obtained

Two-way shape memory effect of polycrystalline Ni–Mn–Ga–Gd high-temperature shape memory alloys
Scripta Materialia, 2013The two-way shape memory effect (TWSME) of polycrystalline Ni54Mn25Ga21−xGdx alloys is investigated. The largest TWSME value (2.9%) without training is observed in Ni54Mn25Ga20.7Gd0.3 alloy due to a small amount of Gd(Ni,Mn)4Ga phase formation, and this value increases to 3.5% after thermomechanical training.

Two-way shape memory effect of TiNi alloys induced by hydrogenation
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2002An investigation on the two-way shape memory effect (TWSME) induced by an electrochemical hydrogenation has been conducted on two TiNi shape memory alloys (SMAs) (Ti49.2Ni50.8 and Ti51.1Ni48.9 denoted as materials A and B, respectively). While a bending constraint has been applied during hydrogenation, the effects of current density, solution ...

Two-way shape memory effect developed by martensite deformation in NiTi
Acta Materialia, 1998Abstract The effect of tensile deformation in the martensitic state on the transformation behaviour of a polycrystalline near-equiatomic NiTi alloy was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and thermal mechanical analysis. The experimental results indicated that the process of martensite reorientation proceeded in a Luders manner over a ...
