Cages and anomalous diffusion in vibrated dense granular media

open access: yes, 2015
A vertically shaken granular medium hosts a blade rotating around a fixed vertical axis, which acts as a mesorheological probe. At high densities, independently from the shaking intensity, the blade's dynamics show strong caging effects, marked by ...

Two-way Shape Memory Effect and Mechanical Resonance Properties of Shape-Memory-Alloy-Coated Magnetic Ribbons

open access: yesJournal of the Magnetics Society of Japan, 2010
This paper describes a new type of actuator composed of a shape-memory-alloy coated magnetic ribbon that detects any deformation of the shape memory alloy. The ribbons reversibly deform by heating or cooling in the temperature region from 10°C to 80°C.

Two-way Shape Memory Effect in a Cu-13 wt.%Al-4 wt.%Ni Shape Memory Alloy by the Thermo - Mechanical Cycling Method

open access: yesThe Annals of “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati. Fascicle IX, Metallurgy and Materials Science, 2007
A Cu - 13 %wt Al 4 %wt Ni polycrystalline shape memory alloy has studied with a thermo mechanical cycling method. The two – way shape memory effect (TWSME) was obtained bending the alloy around a cylinder mold and by using a constrained heating – cooling

Characteristics Analysis and Testing of SMA Spring Actuator

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2013
The biasing form two-way shape memory alloy (SMA) actuator composed of SMA spring and steel spring is analyzed. Based on the force equilibrium equation, the relationship between load capacity of SMA spring and geometric parameters is established.

Tuning the Properties of Multi‐Stable Structures Post‐Fabrication Via the Two‐Way Shape Memory Polymer Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Multi‐stable elements are commonly employed to design reconfigurable and adaptive structures, because they enable large and reversible shape changes in response to changing loads, while simultaneously allowing self‐locking capabilities. However, existing

A Smart Polymer Composite Based on a NiTi Ribbon and a Magnetic Hybrid Material for Actuators with Multiphysic Transduction

open access: yesActuators, 2015
A smart composite material constituted of a magnetic hybrid film and a NiTi shape memory alloy (SMA) ribbon was obtained and characterized. The magnetic hybrid film was joined to the NiTi ribbon in order to combine the properties of both materials.
