Specialized attachments have been designed and produced for the purpose of taking tympanic membrane photographs (Kowa RC 2 Fundus Camera). A doublespeculum technique made it possible to clean the ear canal of wax, hair, and loose canal epithelium through the mounted speculum.

Noncontact tympanic thermometer
Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, 1978An improved electronic tympanic thermometer has been developed. Thermal feedback is used to lower measurement error, response time and potential cost, and to obviate the need for actual contact with the tympanic membrane. With this technique core temperature can be monitored with increased effectiveness and reduced risk.

Sensation from the tympanic membrane is generally believed to be mediated via at least four cranial nerves, some authors describing discrete territories for each of these nerves. The lack of critical evidence for independent sensory areas prompted a clinical study of tympanic membrane sensation in 32 patients having known cranial nerve deficits ...

Tympanic membrane ossification
The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1993Ossification of the tympanic membrane after myringoplasty is recorded for the first time. Myringoplasty was performed for closure of a perforation which followed the surgical treatment of Otitis media with effusion and had included the insertion of a long-term T-tube.

Extra-Tympanic Electrocochleography
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1977A non-invasive technique for recording the cochlear action potential in adults without recourse to sedation or local anaesthesia is presented. This technique has been assessed in two ways: (1) A group of normal subjects was tested to obtain distributions of response amplitude and latency as functions of stimulus intensity.

Tympanic membrane changes in central tympanic membrane perforations
American Journal of Otolaryngology, 2005The objective of this study was to evaluate the histopathological changes in central tympanic membrane perforations caused by chronic otitis media without cholesteatoma.Twenty-nine temporal bones from 25 patients (13 male patients and 12 female patients) with central tympanic membrane perforations-18 chronic otitis media with perforation and 11 chronic

Tympanic Membrane and Tympanic Plate
1978Since mammals descended from terrestrial forms and the overwhelming majority of them remained terrestrial, it is not surprising that the mammalian ear is a terrestrial one. The middle ear is therefore a device to match the acoustic impedances of air and the liquids in the inner ear.
