Schwannoma of the tympanic membrane

The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 2006
Schwannoma arising from the tympanic membrane is a rare neoplasm. This report describes an external ear canal mass obscuring the tympanic membrane. A transcanal approach identified a tumour adhered to the tympanic membrane. The tumour was excised without myringoplasty. Pathology confirmed the diagnosis of schwannoma.

The Development of the Tympanic Sinus

ORL, 2010
On the examination of 200 embryonal petrous bones the factors affecting the morphology of the tympanic sinus under physiological conditions are discussed. The development of the tympanic sinus begins during the fourth month of embryonic life. In an embryo of 5 months the floor of the tympanic sinus developing between the cochlea and the vestibulum ...

Noncontact tympanic thermometer

Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing, 1978
An improved electronic tympanic thermometer has been developed. Thermal feedback is used to lower measurement error, response time and potential cost, and to obviate the need for actual contact with the tympanic membrane. With this technique core temperature can be monitored with increased effectiveness and reduced risk.

Tympanic Membrane Photography

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1974
Specialized attachments have been designed and produced for the purpose of taking tympanic membrane photographs (Kowa RC 2 Fundus Camera). A doublespeculum technique made it possible to clean the ear canal of wax, hair, and loose canal epithelium through the mounted speculum.

Extra-Tympanic Electrocochleography

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1977
A non-invasive technique for recording the cochlear action potential in adults without recourse to sedation or local anaesthesia is presented. This technique has been assessed in two ways: (1) A group of normal subjects was tested to obtain distributions of response amplitude and latency as functions of stimulus intensity.

Hernia of the tympanic membrane

Auris Nasus Larynx, 2017
Although tympanic bulging is commonly encountered, tympanic herniation occupying the external auditory canal is extremely rare. A 66-year-old man was presented to our hospital with left aural fullness, bilateral hearing loss and otorrhea. Preoperative findings suggested tympanic membrane (TM) hernia located in the left external auditory canal.

Fibroma of the tympanic membrane

American Journal of Otolaryngology, 2009
A primary tumor of the tympanic membrane is very rare. Herein, we describe a patient with a thick tympanic membrane that caused progressive hearing loss. The patient was treated with total resection of the tympanic membrane and was diagnosed with fibroma after histopathologic examination. There was no evidence of recurrence 2 years after the operation,

Experiences With Tympanic Transplants

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1973
Based on the clinical experience obtained over a five-year-period studying more than 500 cases, the present state of the problem of tympanic transplants is defined. It is emphasized that in such implants the collagenous fibers are dead and the fibrocytes progressively loosened during the preservation in 2-(ethylmercurithio) -5-benzoxazolcarboxylic acid

Tympanic Membrane and Tympanic Plate

1978
Since mammals descended from terrestrial forms and the overwhelming majority of them remained terrestrial, it is not surprising that the mammalian ear is a terrestrial one. The middle ear is therefore a device to match the acoustic impedances of air and the liquids in the inner ear.

The Attack on the Tympanic Membrane

Pediatrics, 1984
Fluid in the ear, glue ear, and conductive hearing loss have replaced the "infected, large, or hypertrophied tonsils" and "enlarged adenoids" as a major concern of primary physicians caring for children and the special domain of ear, nose, and throat physicians.
