Identification of the genetic determinants of Salmonella enterica serotype Typhimurium that may regulate the expression of the type 1 fimbriae in response to solid agar and static broth culture conditions

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2008
Background Type 1 fimbriae are the most commonly found fimbrial appendages on the outer membrane of Salmonella enterica serotype Typhimurium. Previous investigations indicate that static broth culture favours S.

Short chain fatty acids induced the type 1 and type 2 fimbrillin-dependent and fimbrillin-independent initial attachment and colonization of Actinomyces oris monoculture but not coculture with streptococci

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2020
Background Actinomyces oris is an early colonizer and has two types of fimbriae on its cell surface, type 1 fimbriae (FimP and FimQ) and type 2 fimbriae (FimA and FimB), which contribute to the attachment and coaggregation with other bacteria and the ...

Damping properties of type 1 fimbriae

open access: yes, 2014
Type 1 fimbriae mediate adhesion of uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) to host cells. It has been hypothesized that fimbriae can, by their ability to uncoil under exposure to force, reduce fluid shear stress on the adhesin-receptor interaction by which the bacterium adheres to the surface. In this work we develop a model that describes how the force

Comparison of Escherichia coli fimbrial antigen F7 with type 1 fimbriae [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 1980
Two Escherichia coli O6:K2:H1 strains, C1212 and C1214, isolated from urinary tract infections, were compared for their capacity to adhere to various cells. After growth on solid medium, only C1212 bacteria agglutinate human erythrocytes and attach to urinary epithelial cells. Both of these reactions are mannose resistant.

Role of yqiC in the pathogenicity of Salmonella and innate immune responses of human intestinal epithelium

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2016
The yqiC gene of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium) regulates bacterial growth at different temperatures and mice survival after infection. However, the role of yqiC in bacterial colonization and host immunity remains unknown.

Synthesis and function of Actinomyces naeslundii T14V type 1 fimbriae require the expression of additional fimbria-associated genes [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 1997
The nucleotide sequence of the chromosomal DNA flanking the Actinomyces naeslundii (formerly A. viscosus) T14V type 1 fimbrial structural subunit gene (fimP) was determined. Six open reading frames (ORFs), in the order 5' ORF3, ORF2, ORF1,fimP, ORF4, ORF5, ORF6 3', were identified. ORF1 encoded a protein of 408 amino acid residues (Mr = 39,270) and had

The detection of fimbriae by Transmission electron microscope in Salmonella isolated locally from patient in Kirkuk city and compared with some standard isolates . [PDF]

open access: yesKirkuk Journal of Science, 2009
This study include the detection of fimbriae by Transmission electron microscope in three type of locall isolates of Salmonella (S.typhi , S.typhimurium, S.montevideo) and compared with their standard strains (S.typhi , S.paratyphi B , S.

Effect of Aminophenyl and Aminothiahexyl α-D-Glycosides of the Manno-, Gluco-, and Galacto-Series on Type 1 Fimbriae-Mediated Adhesion of Escherichia coli

open access: yesBiology, 2013
Adhesion of bacteria to the glycosylated surface of their target cells is typically mediated by fimbrial lectins, exposed on the bacterial surface. Among the best-investigated and most important fimbriae are type 1 fimbriae, for which α-d-mannopyranoside-

Evolutionary Analysis Points to Divergent Physiological Roles of Type 1 Fimbriae in Salmonella and Escherichia coli

open access: yesmBio, 2013
Salmonella and Escherichia coli mannose-binding type 1 fimbriae exhibit highly similar receptor specificities, morphologies, and mechanisms of assembly but are nonorthologous in nature, i.e., not closely related evolutionarily.

Mesial temporal lobe epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis: Seizure, neuropsychological, and quality of life outcomes of 100 patients treated with trans‐anterior T1 selective amygdalohippocampectomy

open access: yesEpileptic Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective For mesial temporal lobe epilepsy with hippocampal sclerosis (MTLE with HS), laser interstitial thermal therapy has recently been increasingly used. At our institute, however, selective amygdalohippocampectomy by a trans‐anterior T1 subpial approach (trans‐anterior T1 SAH) has been used for MTLE with HS. Here, we examined the seizure,
