Wedge crack nucleation in Type 316 stainless steel
Journal of Materials Science, 1977Type 316 austenitic steel has been heat-treated to produce a range of grain sizes and then creep-tested at 625° C at various stresses so as to examine the nucleation and the factors which effect the nucleation of grain-boundary triple point or “wedge” cracks.

Diffusion of Manganese in Type 316 Austenitic Stainless Steel
Metal Science, 1975AbstractThe diffusivity of manganese in T316 austenitic stainless steel was measured by the standard tracer technique and also determined from the concentration profiles obtained by microprobe analysis after vacuum annealing. There was good agreement between the diffusion coefficients obtained from each method; the presence of a depleted layer is ...

Ductility of Irradiated Type 316 Stainless Steel
1973The effect of fast reactor irradiation on the ductility of annealed AISI Type 316 stainless steel is described in terms of strain rate, temperature, and neutron fluence. Creep and tensile data obtained after EBR-II irradiations are presented and analyzed in terms of controlling deformation mechanisms.

Creep in type 316 stainless steel
Acta Metallurgica, 1978Abstract Dislocation creep rates at 625°C have been examined in Type 316 stainless steel in both the solution treated condition and after pre-straining to the secondary creep state at several initial stresses. The application of particle-induced internal stress ideas does not provide a completely satisfactory interpretation of the creep behaviour and

Segregation in a neutron-irradiated Type 316 stainless steel
Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1992Radiation-induced segregation (RIS) and associated irradiation-assisted stress corrosion cracking (IASCC) of austenitic alloys may be a major factor in limiting component lifetimes in water-cooled nuclear reactors. There are some similarities between radiation-induced sensitization/IASCC and thermally-induced sensitization/intergranular stress ...

Role of Methanol on Pitting of Type 316 Stainless Steel
Corrosion, 2005This work is aimed at improving the understanding of the localized corrosion of stainless steel in methanolic solutions. Potentiodynamic polarization curves on Type 316 (UNS S31600) were measured in methanol (CH3OH)-water (H2O)-1 M lithium chloride (LiCl) at water concentrations ranging from 1 wt% to 100 wt%. The pitting potential increased from 350 mV

HIGH STRAIN FATIGUE OF A TYPE 316 STAINLESS STEEL
Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials and Structures, 1980Abstract— High strain fatigue tests of Type 316 stainless steel have been carried out at room temperature and 600°C. Cold work reduces the life relative to the annealed condition when considered in terms of plastic strain per cycle but not when the total strain range is used. It also renders the material far more resistant to cyclically induced changes

The Diffusion of Chromium in Type 316 Stainless Steel
Metal Science, 1975AbstractThis study is part of a programme to determine the diffusion behaviour of the principal constituents of Type 316 stainless steel. Chromium diffusion plays an important role in the oxidation behaviour of stainless steels and both lattice and grain-boundary diffusion rates have been measured. Lattice diffusion in the temperature range 1023–1473 K

Recovery of a creep-deformed Type 316 stainless steel
Journal of Materials Science, 1979The recovery of the dislocation structures produced in a Type 316 steel during creep has been examined by annealing over a range of temperatures and times, both in the presence and in the absence of stress. The influence of dislocation recovery on subsequent reloading behaviour has also been examined.

Booth dispense with type 316 stainless steel
Anti-Corrosion Manual, 1990The UK's leading manufacturer of speciality drinks dispensers, Booth Dispensers Ltd of Lytham St. Anne's is now using Sandvik 1802 free cutting stainless steel instead of Type 316 steel for the manufacture of nozzles in its vending equipment.
