Failure of Type 316 Stainless Steel Autoclave Components
Corrosion, 1958A short account is given of an investigation into the cause of failure of a number of Type 316 stainless steel autoclave components that failed in service after an extremely short operational life. Failure of these components situated in the vapor phase was attributed to stress-corrosion cracking.

The cyclic creep behaviour of Type 316 stainless steel
Journal of Materials Science, 1978The cyclic creep behaviour of a Type 316 stainless steel at 625° C has been examined as a function of the maximum applied stress and frequency using trapezoidal loading cycling between zero and a maximum stress. The so-called “static-to-dynamic creep transition” observed is interpreted in terms of recoverable anelastic strain behaviour without using an

Distribution and Mobility of Tritium in Type 316 Stainless Steel
Fusion Science & Technology, 2010Exposure of Type 316 stainless steel to tritium-containing hydrogen at an elevated temperature causes diffusion of the majority into the bulk and trapping of a small fraction in a thin oxide layer ...

A study of precipitation in AISI type 316 stainless steel
Materials Science and Engineering, 1983Abstract The precipitation behaviour of nine casts of AISI type 316 steels, with aging temperatures ranging from 550 to 815°C and times up to 120 000 h has been studied using a newly developed X-ray internal standard technique. At temperatures below 700 °C, the data obtained are consistent with the theory that the precipitation of M23C6 is chromium ...

Swelling Simulation Studies of Type 316 Stainless Steel
1976The effects of some compositional and processing variations on the irradiation-induced swelling of 20 percent cold-worked Type 316 stainless steel have been investigated. Bombardment by 5-MeV nickel ions was used to simulate the fast neutron irradiation which occurs in breeder reactor core components.

Weldability of neutron-irradiated type 316 stainless steel
Fusion Engineering and Design, 1996Abstract The post-irradiation weldability of neutron-irradiated type 316 stainless steel has been examined. The tungsten inert-gas arc welded joints were made of type 316 stainless steel used as wrapper tube in the JOYO fast reactor at 668–683 K to a maximum dose and helium content of about 22 dpa and 9 appm respectively.

Isothermal and Thermomechanical Fatigue of Type 316 Stainless Steel
1996Discussed is the thermomechanical fatigue (TMF) life of Type 316 stainless steel under in-phase and out-of-phase cycling and a comparison with the isothermal fatigue case. The TMF tests were conducted in air over a temperature range of 399‡C (750‡F) to 621‡C (1150‡F) at several mechanical strain ranges: δεm = 0.4% through 1.0%.

Creep of type 316 stainless steel at low stresses
Metal Science, 1981AbstractThe creep behaviour in vacuum of type 316 stainless steel of intercept grain size 11 ± 2 μm has been investigated for stresses up to 13 MN m−2, temperatures between 873 and 1023 K (0·52–0·61 T m), and test durations of between 50 and 300 h. Creep measurements were made on electrical selfresistance heated selfloaded helical specimens as carried ...

Effect of helium on microstructure in type 316 stainless steel
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1983Abstract Solution annealed Type 316 stainless steel samples with 14 and 640 wt ppm boron were irradiated with thermal neutron fluences of 3.9×10 24 and 1.2×10 24 n/m 2 at 340 and 523 K. On post-irradiation annealing for 30 min at 1023 K, Frank loops and helium bubbles formed in the samples containing transmuted helium of ...

On the Warm Rolling of Type 316 Austenitic Stainless Steel
International Journal of Materials Research, 1988Warm rolling of plates of AISI type 316 stainless steel is reported. Uniaxial compressive flow stress - temperature curves at different strains were generated to account for the thickness strain variations seen in rolling. A new method of calculating the strain rate in rolling is shown to be as accurate as an already established procedure.
