The Diffusion of Chromium in Type 316 Stainless Steel

Metal Science, 1975
AbstractThis study is part of a programme to determine the diffusion behaviour of the principal constituents of Type 316 stainless steel. Chromium diffusion plays an important role in the oxidation behaviour of stainless steels and both lattice and grain-boundary diffusion rates have been measured. Lattice diffusion in the temperature range 1023–1473 K

The cyclic creep behaviour of Type 316 stainless steel

Journal of Materials Science, 1978
The cyclic creep behaviour of a Type 316 stainless steel at 625° C has been examined as a function of the maximum applied stress and frequency using trapezoidal loading cycling between zero and a maximum stress. The so-called “static-to-dynamic creep transition” observed is interpreted in terms of recoverable anelastic strain behaviour without using an

Distribution and Mobility of Tritium in Type 316 Stainless Steel

Fusion Science & Technology, 2010
Exposure of Type 316 stainless steel to tritium-containing hydrogen at an elevated temperature causes diffusion of the majority into the bulk and trapping of a small fraction in a thin oxide layer ...

Recovery of a creep-deformed Type 316 stainless steel

Journal of Materials Science, 1979
The recovery of the dislocation structures produced in a Type 316 steel during creep has been examined by annealing over a range of temperatures and times, both in the presence and in the absence of stress. The influence of dislocation recovery on subsequent reloading behaviour has also been examined.

Booth dispense with type 316 stainless steel

Anti-Corrosion Manual, 1990
The UK's leading manufacturer of speciality drinks dispensers, Booth Dispensers Ltd of Lytham St. Anne's is now using Sandvik 1802 free cutting stainless steel instead of Type 316 steel for the manufacture of nozzles in its vending equipment.

Failure of Type 316 Stainless Steel Autoclave Components

Corrosion, 1958
A short account is given of an investigation into the cause of failure of a number of Type 316 stainless steel autoclave components that failed in service after an extremely short operational life. Failure of these components situated in the vapor phase was attributed to stress-corrosion cracking.

A study of precipitation in AISI type 316 stainless steel

Materials Science and Engineering, 1983
Abstract The precipitation behaviour of nine casts of AISI type 316 steels, with aging temperatures ranging from 550 to 815°C and times up to 120 000 h has been studied using a newly developed X-ray internal standard technique. At temperatures below 700 °C, the data obtained are consistent with the theory that the precipitation of M23C6 is chromium ...

Weldability of neutron-irradiated type 316 stainless steel

Fusion Engineering and Design, 1996
Abstract The post-irradiation weldability of neutron-irradiated type 316 stainless steel has been examined. The tungsten inert-gas arc welded joints were made of type 316 stainless steel used as wrapper tube in the JOYO fast reactor at 668–683 K to a maximum dose and helium content of about 22 dpa and 9 appm respectively.

Swelling Simulation Studies of Type 316 Stainless Steel

1976
The effects of some compositional and processing variations on the irradiation-induced swelling of 20 percent cold-worked Type 316 stainless steel have been investigated. Bombardment by 5-MeV nickel ions was used to simulate the fast neutron irradiation which occurs in breeder reactor core components.

Creep of type 316 stainless steel at low stresses

Metal Science, 1981
AbstractThe creep behaviour in vacuum of type 316 stainless steel of intercept grain size 11 ± 2 μm has been investigated for stresses up to 13 MN m−2, temperatures between 873 and 1023 K (0·52–0·61 T m), and test durations of between 50 and 300 h. Creep measurements were made on electrical selfresistance heated selfloaded helical specimens as carried ...
