Acoustic emission technique for detecting micro- and macroyielding in solution-annealed AISI Type 316 austenitic stainless steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
The acoustic emission (AE) technique has been used to detect the microplastic yielding occurring during macroscopic elastic deformation in an AISI Type 316 stainless steel.

Study of the tensile behavior of AISI type 316 stainless steel using acoustic emission and infrared thermography techniques

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2015
Acoustic emission (AE) and infrared thermography technique (IRT) have been used to study the tensile behavior of AISI type 316 stainless steel. Strain rates of tensile testing were varied from 1.4 × 10−3 s−1 to 1.4 × 10−2 s−1. AE root mean square voltage

Mixing Behavior of Natural Gas and Hydrogen in a High‐Efficiency Vane (HEV) Static Mixer

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Static mixers play a crucial role in the safe transport of hydrogen‐blended natural gas. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was employed to investigate the effects of structural parameters of the HEV static mixer on the mixing behavior and homogeneity of natural gas and hydrogen. The modeling approach was well validated against experimental data.

Tensile and creep data on type 316 stainless steel

open access: yes, 1980
This report summarizes tensile and creep data on 13 heats of type 316 stainless steel. It includes ten different product forms (three plates, four pipes, and three bars) of the reference heat tested at ORNL. Tensile data are presented in tabular form and analyzed as a function of temperature by the heat centering method.

Anaerobic Corrosion Phenomena of Cast Iron and Copper in Artificial Groundwater at Elevated Temperature

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
This study examines corrosion of copper and cast iron as candidate canister materials for high‐level radioactive waste disposal in contact with bentonite suspension. The influence of three electrolyte compositions on corrosion behavior under repository‐relevant conditions is assessed.

Influence of a flowing-lithium environment on the fatigue and tensile properties of Type 316 stainless steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
Low-cycle fatigue and tensile data have been obtained on Type 316 stainless steel in a flowing lithium environment of controlled purity. The results show that the fatigue life of the steel in flowing lithium at 755 K is greater than in air.

Thermal creep properties of alloy D9 stainless steel and 316 stainless steel fuel clad tubes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Uniaxial thermal creep rupture properties of 20% cold worked alloy D9 stainless steel (alloy D9 SS) fuel clad tubes for fast breeder reactors have been evaluated at 973 K in the stress range 125-250 MPa. The rupture lives were in the range 90-8100 h. The

Effect of Oxygen and Nitrogen Oxide Gas Concentration on Corrosion of 310N Stainless Steel in Solar Salt at 600°C

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
Schematic depicting corrosion layer formation and changes in stainless steel exposed to Solar Salt at 600°C for 1000 h under different atmospheres: (a) N2 accelerates salt decomposition, producing nitrite and oxide ions, causing severe corrosion. (b) Adding O2 reduces nitrite ions formation, resulting in less corrosion than N2 alone.

Multiscale 3D analysis of creep cavities in AISI type 316 stainless steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A sample of AISI type 316 stainless steel from a power station steam header, showing reheat cracking, was removed from service and has been examined by a combination of microscale X-ray computed tomography (CT), nanoscale serial section focused ion beam ...
